Fair enough
Just double checking because i wouldn’t want to do my whole weekly food shopping, get to the till and find its declined, would be a real pain.
This month is all trial and error, hopefully next month Monzo will be my only bank that i use

You should always carry a backup card, Monzo or not. Preferably a card on a different network (Visa, Amex, etc) to protect you against a Mastercard outage.
If you’ve got a credit card (if not you might want to get one to build your credit history) just use that as backup!
Ok
A few weeks ago there was an outage wasn’t there ? Im sure it was Visa
Yeah but somehow certain acquirers used Visa to relay their MasterCard transactions so some merchants were completely out (don’t ask me why they’d need a third-party provider just to send some packets over the internet).
When I was on an EasyJet flight early last week they said they can’t accept Monzo/Revolut cards as the payments never go through and so they never get paid. They then had no change and so a few people were unable to buy anything on their flight as Monzo is their only bank. So this is one of the pitfalls at the moment of being fully Monzo
Not sure whether this is something that has been raised before with the investigation into EasyJet @anon41219820 @anon56040506 ?
This may interest you
it’s only because Monzo is new:
Thanks mate.
Yes i saw that post earlier, this is why i created this thread just to make sure
I’m looking forward to changing fully to monzo, however I’m going to keep my TSB account open too. If I have a problem I can quickly transfer cash and pay via their VISA instead as a worst case scenario
time will change things!
Hi Venomx,
I can confirm that Aldi UK accept Monzo contactless, chip and pin, and Google Pay with Monzo.
Thanks!
EasyJet point blank refused Monzo yesterday on a flight from Turkey back into UK.
When I queried why one flight attendant said that they didn’t know why just that they had a briefing saying not to accept Monzo, another said it was because of ‘account security issues’; when pressed they couldn’t elaborate on what ‘security issues’ they were…
They were then happy to accept another Mastercard card, when I then queried why one Mastercard was OK and another wasn’t I just received blank looks…
How is this still happening
EasyJet need a better way to communicate things. Or do we all just send them an email and a tweet?
Maybe we need an update from Monzo about easyjet? Seems they were in contact with them already about it
Sounds like a problem based on monzo previously being a pre-paid card
Monzo is no longer a prepaid card, and even prepaid cards should be allowed. The cards and terminals are smart enough to inform each other of their capabilities (“I am on a plane and can’t authorise offline” - “no problems, I support offline transactions too”) so no risk of them not getting the money; if the terminal likes the card then they are fine. Online-only cards will be declined at the terminal anyway if it can’t go online.
Maybe @Rika and others could answer but that makes no sense to me… Why would a purchase transaction require the magstripe ATM feature, ever?
The terminal is crooked and the magstripe is being relayed to a scammer somewhere who’s gonna cash it out.

I think some merchants may not be able to carry out chip+PIN verification in real time. I suspect it’s not a coincidence that this happened while I was on an internal flight abroad - not all airlines are set up to handle international cards in real time
Has anybody had issues with online payments through Worldpay? I tried ordering with a shop that uses them, and it just gave an error. The
app didn’t alert me to any problem (like an incorrect CVV), so I assume it didn’t even try to submit the transaction.
Went back to my Barclaycard and it all went through fine.
Yeap, I can’t remember what site it actually was but I remember some weird error and it was definitely a site using WorldPay. Same as you, worked fine when I used my Natwest card instead. I’m wondering if this may be because of 3D Secure?
Months after first reporting it to them Life Leisure still insist Monzo doesn’t exist - they won’t accept the direct debit or the debit card.
There must be some way of getting them to update their by now jurassic database to include changes made in the last 2 years…
