Has anybody me from NI ditched one of the local established banks such as Ulster & Danske Bank to use Monzo as their main account for salary and direct debit payments?
Tempted to take the plunge as I really like the idea of using the pots for money management, but weary of a major IT clinch happening like the one experienced by Ulster Bank and the wider NatWest group a few years ago.
Plus, what is the customer service like when things do go wrong.
NI falls into the UK remit, and in terms of IT breakdowns, it’s very rare, but you can generally still use your card and have basic access to the app to see balances.
Customer service has been fine for me, others have had issues but this is down to complexity, the help guidance within the app can usually solve the majority of queries you have.
I use Monzo and Monzo flex for ALL my banking needs. I did open an HSBC account as a backup because they have the balance after bills. However after setting up hsbc account the app was glitchy and the main screen was like a zoomed in effect. I did all the usual rest phone, reinstall app, update phone. Went into settings as zoom mode etc but told hsbc and they said they knew about the glitch and working on it. (iPhone 13mini) after 8weeks it still hadn’t been fixed so I’m just sticking with the one account (Monzo) because I love their app and notifications. Plus in all the years I’ve been a customers I’ve had no issues or bank crashes with them. Also multiple accounts can get messy with juggling money etc
We (my wife and I) use Monzo as our main accounts (joint and personal) - we do have a Nationwide one as a backup though. Monzo’s been pretty reliable with only a few minor glitches in the many years we’ve used them - they do have a status page with history at Monzo Bank Status - Incident History if you want to check how they’ve been doing.
