US Election 24

Trump has this election in the bag, unless he goes to jail and stays there I reckon.

Even then…

Trouble is he is/will be a martyr. That never turns out well…

Indeed, if he goes to jail it will be one of the most dangerous moments in American history. The overriding right wing narrative is already that ‘if Biden can lock up his opponents, the constitution has fallen’.

If he goes to prison, a wave of resistance will start, that’s for sure. What’s unknown is how far or wide it will catch on, it could either quickly fizzle out or grow and become overwhelming. His last insurrection fizzled out, institutions stood strong - let’s hope it’s the same.

Looking like a difficult point, read somewhere the legal lines aren’t sure if he’s ineligible to stand because he did start an insurrection or, if he’s found guilty of starting an insurrection

Either way, it’s the liberal ‘swamp’ that decide, meaning his supporters won’t feel the weight of any judgement.

Also going back a bit, an interesting read on Vivek’s foreign policy views https://www.theamericanconservative.com/a-viable-realism-and-revival-doctrine/

It really is a lot of waffle about things which he has no power or influence over (even if he was president). Just a sales pitch.

Not even that. Just a huge diatribe about how he hates China and likes Russia.

Honestly of all the candidates he’s the weirdest. If a right wing Chat GPT bot took a human form he’d be it.

He is the product of consistent brainwashing over many years, and the fact he’s a candidate sort of scares me as unlike pre-trump, the conspiracy theorists get elected these days

No fan of Trump but Biden is truly terrible:

(Biden was at the forefront of jailing people for these exact crimes)

(politically motivated charges from political DAs)

Senile.

What a choice…

Right-wing media criticises Biden - colour me surprised.

It’s not a witch hunt or a politically motivated charge if an actual crime was committed though. If a crime was committed then of course he should be charged.

It’s too early to say whether one was or wasn’t - only a court can decide that. If the court throws the case out or unanimously decides not guilty then it might make sense to start questioning whether or not it should have been charged.

But yet the USA economy is doing better than most and their inflation is down. Most of the policies have worked as well.

If he is senile and doing better than us it just goes to show how bad the right wingers are in charge of the UK for the last 5 years, thats before we get to the brexit nuts, far right loonies and muppets who think there is a woke agenda taking over the world preventing them being absolute tools in normal society.

You got from Biden is seen as senile to Brexit, muppets and “woke agenda” in one sentence. Try and stay on the subject.

Technically true, but there’s a huge delta here. 20-30 documents, immediately reported. FBI found a further checks notes six documents. They took significantly more out of Trumps former residence.

Lemme guess, you’re typing this with a giant MAGA hat on? It’s really clear to anyone except the absolute deep state Trumpites that this isn’t what’s going on here.

While the trials have yet to run their course, and I will allow that to happen before passing full thought, I personally see this as someone who has potentially committed crimes being bought to account for them.

In one of the cases, the main federal one, the Government actually wants it out of the way before the election so it doesn’t interfere.

But of course that doesn’t fit Trumps narrative, so the alternative view persists.

How do you know he is innocent though? Before a court has made a decision? If the court decides he is guilty then obviously the DA was right to bring charges, it’s is exactly their job to bring charges against every single prosecutable criminal offence.

If he is found innocent - particularly if it’s unanimous then I too would question whether the DA should have brought charges. But we don’t know that yet. Let the courts do their jobs.

Okay fair enough, but that doesn’t really help establish whether the DA should have prosecuted.

I guess my question was really shorthand for ‘how do you know he will be found innocent at the trial’

I think they’re referring to the afterwards where Clinton (after conceding) has made claims that it can never really be certain that Russian interference didn’t impact the result.

However what she and Trump are saying/did are two very different things. She’s saying she did lose, but it’ll never be clear what level the interference might have played. He has repeatedly claimed he never lost to Biden and it was a rig.

Anyway back on topic, strap yourselves in folks because it’s going to get interesting

Plenty of articles on it if you care to look:

Are we really flagging legitimate inoffensive comments again? My flagged post above contains nothing offensive or rude or against community guidelines. Moderators really need to step in, you know exactly which accounts do it, and they do it consistently.

I’d be interested if anyone could explain why they flagged that, I don’t recall anything that would have warranted flagging (then again I am so tired today I barely recall anything at all! But it was about DAs being politically motivated right? Hardly an extreme take on the situation, even if I disagree with it)

As the replies debunking it are still visible, I’ll hazard the issue was the promotion of a baseless right-wing conspiracy theory.
