Tymit Digital Credit Card

Not a credit card but PayPal Finance has 4 months with no interest.

To be honest, I’m quite a fan of Tymit.
I have a Nationwide Select as my main credit card, and when my Nat West back up card was cancelled (by Nat West for lack of use lol) I started looking for a replacement card for occasional use.
Firstly there was Tandem, a good card but sadly no more.
Tandem was replaced by Aqua, who kept constantly pestering me because I didn’t use the card often enough so I told them where they could stick it
For a back up card which gets little use, it really is great for me, and the option of 3 months interest free far outweighs any meagre cashback available on credit cards these days.
Hearing they are now adding direct debit support is good to hear too.

Wow so advanced of them

Glad I cancelled my application way back.

You have to make minimum payments with PayPal credit, including on the 4 months interest free offer.

Ah, fair enough.

The Tymit app on iOS has had a bit of a visual upgrade/tidy up today, definitely an improvement

Don’t suppose you have any before & after pictures?

They’ve pretty much just swapped out the font and changed the colour of a few things.

Just got an invite to test the new direct debit system. All set up easy peasy, will certainty take some of the hassle out of it.

Looking forward to my invite. Direct debit will be a big plus.

Tandem credit card managed to get Google pay after like 1.5-2 years after launch. And I don’t think they ever made Apple pay, before folding and withdrawing credit card business altogether.

Tymit will add Apple pay eventually. But please stop moaning. They have a unique selling point - installment plan throught credit card. Predictable and always available. I don’t know of any other physical credit card that offers that on guaranteed basis.

Apple pay is not unique selling point.

Sorry for bumping but I’m thinking that I should get a Tymit. Unsure why I haven’t in the past tbh.

I can see that there’s no apple pay, which is quite lame but obviously liveable.

Are there any other downsides?

Any huge positives/favourite aspects of the card or account?

If people are willing to share, what are credit limits like?

I have a limit of £1500.

The lack of Google Pay is a pain, and I’m not in the Direct Debits beta, but bank transfers come through instantly just like spending, so it’s pretty good.

I like being able to see exactly what the next payment will be no matter where I am in the month (i.e. As soon as the due date has passed) and how much the next several payments will be.

All in all it’s a nice card, only real issue is some sites don’t recognise the BIN as being UK so won’t accept my postcode! This seems to happen mostly with non-UK sites.

I’m not a huge fan of it TBH.

I find the interface so frustatingly lacking any detail that it just makes me wound up to use the app. I would probably say it’s only really worthwhile if you have a specific purchase that you can’t either get a 0% deal on, or on another finance plan with a better deal.

I certainly wouldn’t use it as a daily spending card, because the interface is quite basic and hard to see any info.

I got one a while back to put a big purchase on, and it’s fine for that. The rate I paid over 12 months is sort of middle of the road.

I’d say it’s main competitor is the ā€œPayPal Creditā€ or Klarna style payment options you get at check out, and I’d still say the times I’ve opted for PayPal’s ā€œpay in three monthsā€, it’s been easier.

I have a Ā£3.5k credit limit, for what it’s worth.

I got a Tymit card like a week ago, so far i like it, you can buy stuff and pay them in 3 months installments with 0% interest. The app still has a lot of bugs, the lack of direct debit and Apple Pay is very annoying but hopefully in the future they make it better. The app is promising though.

A bit of both I suppose. In particular was thinking being able to split the occasional very large purchase over 3 months sounded quite attractive.

Based on your second sentence, will go through the thread in some more detail…

This doesn’t sound great. I’d kinda like to ask for more detail but if it’s just totally lacking, I suppose that would be difficult?

I need to set a new PayPal credit up (not that long story short, my account got closed because I’d opened it originally before 18 and therefore lied about my age and they wouldn’t just let me update it but are totally fine with me opening a brand new one :woman_facepalming:t2:) but perhaps that’s just the way to go…

Based on the above thoughts and this, not sounding great! Def gonna do some more research.

Thanks for all the thoughts :folded_hands:

It totally depends on what you’re after. But I find it just shows data in an incomplete way. If you kind of plan to set it and forget it, it’s fine. (Which is what I did). Though I think coming from Monzo it’s just ā€œnot what I’m used toā€.

The way I’d summarise is that the app is built around showing you what you owe this month (and given the premise is ā€œpay over timeā€, that most of the time that =/= your balance). So deep diving data is just a bit harder than I’d like it to be.

I’ve found it useful for purchases I want to spread over 3 months, say to soften the blow of Christmas.
I like the fact there’s no choice to pay minimum payments or anything like that, you set how you want it split and the direct debit does the rest, really simple.
The app has been fine for me, simple enough and does what I want.

Hmmmm okay yeah, that sounds annoying. Thanks for explaining.

Yeah this was certainly a scenario I was imagining.

Clearly some good and some bad. Will keep researching, but no harm in trying aside from temporary credit score I hit I suppose.
