Was just going by the current subject line.
Ah, I see now. Thereās a non Apple TV+ thread.
Can someone move it there?
Season 3 of Industry started last week. Easily one of my favourite shows.
Yet another channel and streamer is having a rebrand. Channel 5 and My5 will relaunch as 5.
So recently, we will have had
ITV Hub - ITVX
All 4 - Channel 4
UKTV Play - U
My5 - 5
Do these channels and streamers really need all these constant rebrands? Channel 5 already went from Channel 5, to Five, back to Channel 5, and now to 5.
Exactly. I just think this will lead to them standing out less.
I think of all of them the strongest ones are BBC iPlayer, Channel 4 and to some extent 5 (although Iām still not clear why itās not called āChannel 5ā)
iPlayer is such a strong brand now that changing it doesnāt make a lot of sense. The BBC is also available across a range of platforms, be that TV, radio, online etc. plus they have a range of services across news, weather, world service etc. so having a separate brand for the online streaming service makes a lot of sense and I admire them for sticking to the name.
Over to Channel 4 and the way weāve been watching TV has been shifting for years. On demand and live online are just as important if not more important for their audience as traditional broadcast linear television. Aligning their online and TV presences makes a hell of a lot of sense. That said it will always be ācatch up for free on 4oDā for me - although that does give me horrible flashbacks of the Kontiki Player.
5 is similar - aligning the online presence with linear makes sense.
Then comes: ITV Player > ITV Hub > ITVX which I still donāt actually understand.
I recorded it but havenāt watched just yet.
Yeah I am enjoying it as well.
Slow horses season 4 has started!!!
Iām watching the second season but I thought the first season was, for me, pretty poor. Some good elements, but also some pretty big plot holes and some characters I could barely care less about. Still hope the second season is better though, and the large budget and good effects do help.
I found it a bit slow for me in the first 2/3 but it got better towards the end.
Loving LotR, itās great to have new stories and characters. Just finished the quirky Sunny on  TV which I really enjoyed. Theyāve set it up for s2 which I hope happens. I also binged The Acolyte on Disney+. It got slated but I really enjoyed it. The flight scenes were brilliant. Again, ended with a s2 possibility but cancelled it. Pity.
Such a good show! Cant wait for season 2!
15th November.
Severance comes 17th January too
What even is the point of Paramount+ now? They donāt exactly have any big shows anymore, just shows that seems pretty ordinary on British TV that most wouldnāt dare pay for. They are even putting shows on ITVX. Donāt understand what they are aiming for now
I donāt see much of interest on Paramount+ either. As soon as I finish Star Trek - Lower Decks, Iāll be cancelling my sub.
Star Trek is the only thing that interests me now. And with two series (Discovery and Lower Decks) ending, there isnāt exactly much of that anymore.
I really enjoyed Discovery and Strange New Worlds was also good. Nothing could beat Voyager though, that show has a special place in my heart.
You canāt go wrong with any Trek really . Itās not like that Star Wars nonsense with their glow sticks. Star Trek is proper Sci-Fi ā¦
I would say I prefer Star Wars but do love a good but of Star Trek and am looking forward to Strange New Worlds returning! But will just wait until the whole series is out, get it for a month, then cancel. Doesnāt seem like a sustainable model to have one big show and a load of standard TV shows that weād find on free TV normally.
Also forgot Picard also ended recently. They do have Starfeet Academy starting at some point, but that does just leave me with two shows on the entire platform that Iāll be interested in which isnāt great.
