This works for me. It’s an absolute nightmare to keep on top of as pot movements are automatically classed as ‘transfers’ (except round ups)so lots of recategorising is required.
I look at transfers as solely between Monzo and non-Monzo accounts and should always balance to £nil; that way the ‘Savings’ category is a true reflection of the net position of my deposits and withdrawals.
Took me an absolute age to find a way that made it work how I wanted it to - it’s not an easy one.
I think this is an example of where Monzo needs to offer flexibility for us to do as we’d like. They can help that by letting us set a default category for transfers to/from each pot, but other than that, I think don’t impose any other model.
(For example, I differ from you by categorising transfers to pots I use for savings as, well, Savings, whereas set aside moneys - like bills pots - just get treated as Transfers).
Absolutely this . Having to reclassify 15 or so transactions on my ‘Salary Sort’ day each month just because they automatically default to ‘transfers’ is a nightmare.
