This works really well.

There are three sections to Trends: spending, savings and transfers. So in your example, the Monzo to Barclays is a transfer and excluded from spending. The £19.99 is then categorised and adds to your total spending amount.

A few extra bits that would make it perfect for me:

  • A split between discretionary and non-discretionary spend (bills vs daily stuff)
  • A separate section (like savings) for investments.

Yes. Need the first one. The concept of committed spending in summary covers it so would make sense to just have it here

The Summary version was just too rigid, though. And no way to see a combined view. I kinda want it, but also need to see combined figures.

Might need to consider more! I suspect driving it off of categories might be better…

I don’t want to see mortgage/ bills in my spending total. Just makes the number a lot bigger and I can relate to it yet. But I suppose over a few months you will get used to it. I just see spending as discretionary as you say.

So I think I do want to track these. But the way I relate to them is very different to the discretionary stuff. For bills / mortgage I’ll try and stamp down on then when they come up for renewal - but that’s rare.

It’s the discretionary stuff that I have direct control over - so that’s a very different and very direct way of managing spend.

I do still like to see overall figures, but practically these two bits of information mean different things to me…

I agree I want to see but not in the same section as discretionary.

I suspect that you’ll be waiting a long time for Tridos. Do they even have an API?

Interesting. Not seen it on any aggregators… Perhaps the user base is so small that no one’s gone for it?

So I’ve done a google… Customer numbers from the 2020 annual report were 84,170.

Small fry, unfortunately.

Agree with both of these! I signed up to try them out, and whilst I love what they’re doing, I found the app woeful.

The most glaring thing which I still wonder about to this day (was I stupid or was it not there) was that I simply could not find my full sort code and account number. One of them was present, but I could not find the other anywhere. Even if I was somewhat stupid…I think that should have been a lot more obvious.

I also didn’t appreciate the way transactions were shown or the entire navigation system of the app tbh.

I am finding myself going into Trends every day and seeing the total spending update but then wanting to go into each of the categories that have been updated and double check that the transaction categories are right. I wish there was some kind of indicator to highlight which have been updated so I don’t have to go into all of the separate accounts to do this.

Hi. I noticed this option in labs and switched it on. I get a message in my feed that it’s been enabled and the message in labs says to wait for five minutes. I’ve waited a few hours and the new tab hasn’t appeared. I’ve tried closing / reopening the app, restarting the phone and toggling the option off and back on again in labs but nothing seems to get trends to appear. This is IOS. Does anyone have any ideas?

I’m now in the handpicked-few group too.

Trends seems to work very well with multiple connected accounts - will dig into it deeper later on, currently in a tent with no electric & limited internet :scream:

@twigusa what app version are you on?

yes, yes, yes, yes!

The magic of the prepay card was that nothing but discretionary spending ever went on it. When you combine that with the automatic category assignment it gave people this enlightening window into their spending that they’d never had before. And it was enforced “envelope” spending because it was a totally different account and so you could assign an amount you were happy spending at the beginning of the month and you’d quickly see if you were overspending and could slow down. This is also why the pulse graph was originally awesome, and later useless.

TL;DR: Please Monzo show us discretionary vs mandatory spending in Trends!

I’m on 3.94.0. I just tried logging out / back in and it took a little while for the plus / premium tab to show but still no trends as yet.
