I’m with you there, the vegan whopper is outstanding!!
I’ve just finished one of them, added an extra patty on
Aldi have a smallish range it’s nothing spectacular and tends to change now and then. I prefer Sainsbury’s for inspiration, they have the biggest range available around here. It’s pretty impressive.
@DaveJ
Interesting that you choose Sainsbury’s.
I would choose Tesco with their Plant Chef and Wicked Kitchen ranges for the widest choice although I think that Sainsbury’s may have the edge however it is difficult to know because signage isn’t as good in a Sainsbury store as it is in Tesco, at least where I go.
Tesco is pants in comparison, they barely stock anything round here, it’s disappointing.
Sainsbury’s on the other hand, it’s all grouped together, there’s fridges full of the stuff, freezers, shelves etc. Never left disappointed from there yet.
I cooked two vegan burgers from Asda today, was pretty impressed by them, will do it again.
I made my own summer fruits oat milk today, was craving some flavoured milk the other day. Can only ever find a ready made chocolate one on the shelves. Thought maybe I’ll look up how to make it, easier than I thought.
1 cup oats (bloody Americans and cups }
3 to 4 cups water
Blend for approx 20 seconds, I did mine for a bit longer.
Pinch salt
Tbsp maple syrup or any other type of sweetener
1 cup frozen fruit
Blend it again. Strain it in one them nylon sieves or muslin cloth into a jug, then pour into whatever container and put in fridge.
Lasts up to 5 days, I was impressed with the taste, it’s a bit more watery than the store bought but not by much. That’ll be trial and error next to put less water in or more oats to get the right consistency for me.
The bits left in the sieve can go into overnight oats, baking like flap jack’s etc. I’ve put mine into freezer to use with baking another day. There’s not much left over once it’s blitzed though to be fair.
Try making the oat milk first and then blend it with the fruit etc.
Oat milk is created by soaking oats for a few hours, strain to discard all the water and then blend the oats, to which salt is added and after just covering in fresh water, to a creamy consistency.
There’s no need to soak the oats, it doesn’t add anything extra to the flavour
Waitrose assistant reduced these from £2.50 to £2.09 today because they were on their sell buy date.
Happy days, best pork type sausages I and my wife have ever had.
So “porky” that my wife checked the receipt to ensure I hadn’t bought the meat eaters version.
There’s not much meat in the carnivore version of Richmond sausages, to be fair! Only 42%… the Co-op’s, by comparison, are 93%.
The Richmond vegan sausages are fantastic, we buy them regularly. I hear they’ve made some vegan bacon now too, but not tried it yet.
They do a pre-frozen packet now as well. So I always have emergency rations for a sausage sarnie!
Richmond ones are great, they were my favourite until I tried these. The flavour kind of reminds me of a Cumberland style sausage, highly recommended trying them.
Excellent, like salt and sugar, the less meat the better.
Perhaps Richmond have a cunning plan to wean carnivores of meat products to the more profitable vegan offerings
Or of course there may be some closet vegans on the board🤣
@simonb
The vegan "bacon” is my favourite at the moment.
I like to splash a little liquid smoke in with the little oil I use to fry them for a few minutes.
Have to say that I haven’t tasted real bacon for fifteen years but as far as I can remember it smells and tastes the same.
I say it is my favourite for the moment because I was buying the Finnebrogue Naked product but I complained to them to say that their rashers fell apart into thin strips.
The cost, weight for weight, is the same but the Richmond pack contains 8 rashers as against 12 in the Naked product.
They replied saying that the technical people were reformulating the product and they expect the new recipe product to reach the shops in September. Probably less rashers per pack, we will see.
They went on to thank me with a £10 voucher
I’ve not tried Richmond ones yet. I really like the Beyond Meat sausages, just at a fiver for 2 of them it’s more a treat than a regular purchase.
I love the Beyond Meat burgers but the sausage prices put me off trying.
It used to be my favourite until other manufacturers discovered pea protein and now I am happy with products from Meatless farm or Richmond Meat Free.
The issue I have with Beyond Meat products is not only the price but the very high fat content for both burgers and the sausage. The sausage in particular wouldn’t be a sausage I would choose because of the portion size, certainly not a sausage for children.
