I need to try this!
Had a beyond meat burger last night, it was really nice
I have found that I consistently like the Beyond Meat burger at Honest but not in Byron shrug
Nearly a year to the day since the last post…
Anyways looks like McDonald’s may be gearing up up release a vegan burger, I’ll be 1st in line up try it as can’t really find a decent burger around these parts at the moment.
Wow, Monzo has threads for such a huge range of stuff.
Glad to see one about Veganism and some really interesting stuff here.
I’ve been vegan for a couple of years now but, to be quite honest, I don’t get too crazy about it - I don’t only eat food that is labelled vegan for example but i will check labels for meat and animal products before buying.
I’m also kinda going against the grain a bit here as I hate that old stereotype that vegans insist on telling everyone they are vegan - I generally don’t tell people unless they ask or the situation demands it (restaurants and such) but seeing as it is a vegan thread I’ll break the rule a bit here.
The biggest challenge for me is always visiting my wife parents, who live in rural Poland and they totally don’t get the whole vegan diet. Thankfully, I have no idea what they are saying but I think they find it funny and I generally end up having to eat dairy when I’m there as they just totally don’t understand. Which kinda sucks because dairy was one of my main reasons for going vegan in the first place.
anyways, nice thread. interesting read
I’d happily slap a vegan for saying they’re vegan especially if it’s just too try and come across as better than someone else. If that’s your choice then well done but the entire world doesn’t need to know about it.
My whole family eat meat and if I go for lunch there’s meat on the table, I just get on and eat whatever my alternative is.
I’m more plant based than anything else, I do try to buy vegan cleaning products etc etc but for me it’s the actual food part to help control health issues which have actually pretty much done one and under control since going plant based
well said and I’m pretty much the same. A lot of my family eat meat and I don’t really care to be honest. I feel like there is this small minority of obnoxious, opinionated vegans who have managed to create this ‘them and us’ type situation between vegans and non-vegans, when the truth is, that most vegans are like everyone else, they have their own preferences for a variety of reasons and just want to get on with their lives.
It’s my 1st vegan Christmas an all this year as I started on 1st January this year, I’ll be off to my mother’s.
We’ve got a vegan starter for everyone to have, mains will be usual for the meat eaters and alternative for me and then a vegan desert for everyone to have.
I’ve bought her and my step dad random vegan foods to try at times and they’re always surprised at just how good they are
I actually discovered these this week… Just wow so delicious.
Should of been a fiver in Tesco but they were going out of date the same date so bargain at half price, I cleared the fridge of all 5 packs hoping that I would enjoy them. Rest went in the freezer so it’s all good.
Tried the vegan KFC burger today, was orite but I wouldn’t be rushing back got another.
It does sound a bit like greenwash. It’s like Ineos owning a cycling team whilst trying to frack the living daylights out of much of rural England.
I went vegan for about 6 months.
In that time, I lost a lot of weight and became weak and malnourished - I realise this isn’t the case for everyone, but however hard I tried, it just didn’t seem to suit me.
Ultimately, I started eating meat again, as my body just couldn’t seem to cope. It was all a bit embarrassing, as I made quite a big deal of it at the time. I definitely eat less meat than I used to though now. One of the main reasons I converted in the first place was due to environmental concerns, however I now feel comfortable with the amount of meat I eat (less than before), and provided you buy local, it can often work out more environmentally friendly than some vegetarian/vegan lifestyles.
Oh Sainsbury’s stock beyond sausage now, just as good as the burgers
Still expensive as hell but as a treat well worth it.
I almost bought them today but it was £3.50 for 2 sausages…
It’s well worth it as a treat as they’re quite large. It’s not something I’d be buying often but nice that there’s options available for when I’m wanting to pig out.
I ended up with getting 6 chorizo ones for £2.50 so I’ll check those out first. I love the burgers but that’s too much for two sausages!
🤦 not sure anything surprises me anymore
I think it would be right to distinguish between vegan diets and plant based diets.
Veganism is a philosophy which I have not fully embraced, I wear leather shoes and eat figs and honey which vegans don’t.
On the other hand I read a book twelve years ago by Professor T Colin Campbell, The China Study, after which I haven’t eaten any animal protein.
Initially I missed cheese and bacon but soon found Sheeze, available in many health food stores and I suspect in Tesco and Sainsbury’s as a "free from”own label product. Recently I have discovered Marks & Spencer’s take on vegan bacon and between them I crave no more.
I recommend that the "China Study” is read because it provides a valuable insight in to the dairy industry and the enormous and powerful lobby to ensure that milk remains a staple of the western diet, a diet which is largely eschewed throughout the rest of the world.
So if you are a "plant eater” as distinct from a vegan then you are on course for far better health than those that continue to consume animal protein and as it happens better of financially.
I’m not knowledgable about this area as regards to the politics and economics of it all, but couldn’t the fact that dairy products aren’t consumed widely by the rest of the world not be partly due to the fact that most of the rest of the world is lactose intolerant?
You are exactly right. Lactose intolerance is the reason but it should be borne in mind that intolerance to lactose is the norm in human beings and we in the West fight against it.
