The Monzo app is changing: we've had a makeover!

A large part of me would be amused if he wheeled himself out for something a bit more niche

Id say tom is just ‘announcing’ the big stuff we already know of + salary sorter imo

Imo hiding the card would remove an area for monzo to announce new features.
I kinda like it’s quick access to certain things.

I didn’t like the look of the new layout during the beta-testing and am reluctant to let go of my current version.

Alas, looks like I may not have a choice as the text suggests that customers are being moved over to it Monday regardless.

:crossed_fingers: it works for my style of management when it happens

But I liked the pulse graph. It meant I could see if I was getting through my monthly allowance too quickly, or if I was on target to have some savings left at the end of the month.

Really do love the new nav. The team have done a fantastic job.

How long is the rollout expected to take when it starts on Monday?

Did you fix that bug where transactions could appear twice?

Or the balance taking an age to update?

Love it! So. Glad the graph is gone, been waiting for this for a long while.

What’s a salary sorter?

We’ll find out next week

But I think the clue is in the name

How do you think it works? Feel there are a few ways

Incoming BACS salary payment triggers automatic moving into pots, either by % or by £. I’d say % is more unlikely

I really like the new navigation.

One feature that’s missing, or at least I can’t find it, is the Statements section. I can’t find where to download bank statements, has it moved or still to be introduced?

on iOS at the bottom of summary

The new progress bars on each account should do this?

The new design seems more modern, for sure. Props to the team working on it.

In terms of personal budgeting, I’m unhappy with this direction. You’re hiding the daily spent amount, which was important IMHO. Facing the “cruel” reality of over-spending should be the norm of a sane financial education, rather than ecouranging it by simply displaying the available amount loud and bold.

Now that the Pulse Graph has gone, how do I find out what my balance was at a particular point in time?

It would be great if the web app could get some love too. I cannot always use the app, especially when travelling and without a data connection on my phone.

I want to be able to use a laptop as easily as my phone in these cases.

Examples of companies that do this well:

  • web.whatsapp.com = can use WhatsApp even when the phone is unable to talk to the internet
  • m.uber.com = can order a car without the phone being used
  • www.deliveroo.co.uk = can order food and have the full rich experience, on someone else’s laptop when your phone is not at hand

I’m already finding the obsession with the app to be very difficult from a usability perspective. With my other banks it doesn’t matter if my phone has no signal, battery, wifi… because I can still use the website.

It would be great if Monzo could see that the Emergency Web App isn’t enough, and a as full an experience as possible should also be offered on a website. Especially when it comes to doing monthly accounts and managing finances.
