The Great Holiday Topic 🏖️

Is there a reason you’re taking the Global Money card instead of an FX-free debit card from the myriad fintechs? I’d have thought it’s less hassle not having to top up the card.

Yeah - that’s why I’d probably use my Starling Euro account (which also works with Open Banking).

Going to Spain in July for my mothers birthday

Well convenience really - everything else is with HSBC. In the past, I’ve just created a pot, put a load of money in there and spent from it. It took less than 30 seconds to convert the money across to Euro’s and actually I found it quite easy to setup.

I do have algbra as a backup, it’s the only fintech I have these days

I have had my week at Pontins already, so no more holidays planned for me this year.

Just got home from Latvia, Estonia and Finland. Was a fantastic trip and can wholeheartedly recommend all places.

We are off to Porto Santo Island on a now rearranged date next Month. If you’ve never heard of Porto Santo it is 27 miles North East of Madeira and is a small island with a superb beach that is about 7 miles long. Went in 2018 and planned to go back in 2020 but that got cancelled so trying again this year.

There’s not really a great deal there but it’s a very relaxing place and I shall be spending the week relaxing and drinking the local Coral Beer :sunglasses:

Hope to get away in September but not sure where to and then Canaries in November

We’re looking at going there. We’ve been to Madeira a few times now and you can get a ferry from one to the other, which is what keeps reminding us it’s there.

Thanks for the inspiration. And Coral Beer is ace, I wish you could get that in the UK!

Never been to Madeira but will go there at some point.

Porto Santo was a bit of an accident the 1st time we went as we’d never heard of it but the Hotel we stopped in was lovely and everything was laid back and relaxing.

Main town Vila Baleira is close by but not much there and that’s part of it’s charm

Completely forgot, I’ve got a week long road trip planned around Europe at the end of June for a stag do! Flying into Munich, doing the Grossglockner pass, and also the Stelvio Pass, then heading back up through Switzerland!

Get the ferry! It’s pretty decent and you could do a trip to Funchal and back in one day.

If you’re looking for any Scottish loch getaways I highly recommend Loch Awe - I went there for my birthday weekend and it was amazing. Small hut by the water.

One of my favourite places! Love it there. Went canoeing years back and woke up about five am to a beautiful sunrise, and no-one (except for three other lads snoring in the tents behind me) for about 5 miles.

Definitely going to check this out

Hadn’t thought of that but it’s something to consider. Also been looking at canal barges.
