The General Chitchat Thread

Happy birthday. Now is the perfect time to start planning your 40th birthday extravaganza. Take it from someone who’s done this at 30, 40, 50 and 60 - make a thing of it and have a ball.

My wife’s the same - she had two birthdays for her 40th because November weather is crap so we had a big “do” the following May.

You’re a long time dead so happy birthday again, I’ll raise a glass to you tonight, and get planning :+1:t2::clinking_glasses::birthday_cake:

I made a surprising discovery today.

We are all familiar with websites which reject postcodes either without or with a space, right?

I found an NHS one which demands a different DOB format depending on what month you were born.

Those born between January and September must use xx x xxxx, while those born between October and December have to use xx xx xxxx or it doesn’t work.

Between that and them booking an appointment with the wrong department (occupational therapy is not the same as physiotherapy) it’s been an annoying day.

That’s such terrible design!

Bonkers.

Pre appointment check form for my dentist - link arrives by email. Click on link and the page header says my full name in big bold letters.

First two questions, mandatory fields, not pre-filled are First name? and Last name?

Sigh…

Start of my week and a half off work. So pleased. Not doing much though I am heading to Stafford to visit friends and we’re going to a water slide park. Haven’t been to one in ages so pretty excited. Next week I have my grandads sisters funeral. She was 99, my grandad is 105. Celebrations of life all round rather than sadness.

Christ that’s a good long life! Sorry to hear of the loss though :folded_hands:t3:

Water slide park sounds amazing, I’m sure my dad took me Stafford water park about 30 years ago :grimacing:

I had to fill in some forms for our conveyancers recently, and while it’s now all online, they’ve basically digitised the old paper-based versions - which means filling in our details and the property details three or four times. I feel there’s maybe some scope for streamlining here…

Thank you. Grandad is the last of his siblings left now but they all made it to 90+ bar one. Grandad proudly has his card from the Queen (100yr) and the King (105yr) on display

Stafford water park, do you remember the donut (some call it the giant) toilet? It’s so much fun.

that’s lovely!
you just reminded me of a story from a few years back where someone wrote to the Queen to complain that she was wearing the same outfit in all of the cards they’d received - so got a visit from Prince William to apologise…

(please report back on whether His Maj is wearing the same suit on the 106th birthday card!)

Thank you and wow what a story to tell that is. I shall indeed report back, he’s 106 this Sept.

Going to the shops today. Have so many things on a todo list for this weekend yet want to do none of them…

I didn’t plan anything and now I’m off to Crosby beach bus yard. It’s a food court type place, so that’ll be nice.

Probably the only thing I’m doing this weekend :grimacing:

Do you get one every year after 100?

Nope. Only every year from 105.

If you’re Irish, you also get a letter from the president and, more importantly, €2000.

No, I thought you did but it’s 100 and 105, no idea if he’ll get another at 106. I doubt it.

It’s every year from 105.

Also, if him, his parents or grandparents were Irish, there’s €2000 to be claimed from Ireland.

Wow that’s generous. Sadly we’re all from the east end of London. No Irish roots
