I think most fun is most important.
It’s clearly not a competition to find the best song in Europe. All the songs are a bit terrible. But it’s Eurovision, we want to be entertained.

I respect the Croatians putting up a respected antifa punk rock band, but after I got over the initial costumes I could have slept through the actual song.
Overall it was a really strong competition this year.
Watched the performances then went to bed. I’m older than the average Eurovision fan (I remember watching Dana win in 1970 with All Kinds of Everything).
Nothing really did it for me apart from Finland and Australia and I was convinced that Finland would take it. I quite liked our entry but only because it had grown on me from hearing it so much. I didn’t think the performance and stage presence was particularly good, though - her voice was too quiet in the mix and the dancing and graphics were not particularly impressive.
I think with a more powerful singer our entry might have done well… but she was lost in the mix and couldn’t make it up with the dancing like Israel did. Plus, what was it about? ‘I wrote a song?’ So did all the other entries… When you’re up against half the entries being vague allusions to ukraine etc… Eurovision loves it’s political messages (whilst simultaneously claiming to be non political) and vote accordingly.
My unbroken record of failing to predict the winners is still solid. I didn’t rate the winning entry at all, and it suddenly winning came out of left field. But that always happens…
Euphoria was (and still is) a GREAT song. Tattoo is a good song. I doubt It would have won if it wasn’t Loreen singing it though.
It’s about getting revenge on an ex. Not by swearing outside their house or smashing up their car but by writing a song about it all. Possibly a bit deep for a Eurovision song…
BBC News - Mae Muller: Why did the UK do so badly at Eurovision?
This also mentions about songs with “deep” meanings not doing that well with the audience (Who the Hell is Edgar being one).
So, fingers crossed for Petra to host next year?!
Konstracta for Serbia got 225 points from televoting last year, and that was a good performance from a true artist.
I don’t think the televoting necessarily doesn’t appreciate things that are meaningful. But people can probably see straight through commercially written songs trying to be ‘edgy’.
Songs with meanings often win… however we just put up generic pop songs every year and expect the voting to change.
The winner is apparently about saying goodbye to a partner, so not really that much different subject matter.

I get why they do it out of capitals but honestly global events need these large central locations… Malmo is cute but not large and hotels will instantly sell out.
Malmo has Copenhagen going for it though. 24 hour trains, and plenty of hotels.
I stayed in Copenhagen for Malmo 2013, for my first live Eurovision. Had a blast. I’m sure if Stockholm had a spare arena they would have won the bid.
It’s not ideal but you’re right. Just think sometimes the actual better cities are looked away to diversify.
It is first and foremost a show for TV broadcast though, so locational and technical facilities will have a heavy weighting. Hotels would sell out anywhere right away wouldn’t they?
This was within like an hour. There aren’t many major chains in Malmo so there isn’t a vast array.
The links to Copenhagen are pretty good in fairness but there will be thousands more hotel rooms in bigger cities. This contest grows each year so it’s more than just TV now I think.
Anyway, Copenhagen it is booked!
So did anyone get tickets?
I just about managed the final afternoon preview, only took 1.5 hrs…
09:00 this morning!
I was fresh off a night shift so drifting on and off in the queue until 10:40

Managed to get jury final for Fri night. Will keep trying for others.
Got flights and hotel booked for Tue to Sun though. May shorten trip but flights are very expensive now.
