Just recieved this this morning and also noticed there was no dedicated Tesco Bank thread.

Lets hope Barclays revamps the app

Ah, I was hoping they’d migrate the Tesco credit cards to Barclaycards.

Fixed

It sounds like they are taking on absolutely everything, even responsibility for closed current accounts, so no plans to wind things down or convert to Barclays branding.

It actually seems like, if anything, Barclays are looking to make it a fairly significant white-label operation, starting with all of the existing Tesco Bank products and not removing any (in the short term) from sale. Maybe that will then lead to some technology investment, possibly including a copy of some of some of Barclays features and maybe a re-skinned version of their app to replace Tesco Bank’s which is not great?

Whereas Sainsbury’s Bank, by contrast, does seem like more of a wind-down with accounts likely to be converted completely to NatWest.

Just realised what you mean - thought you meant the chat name.

Nah, I would prefer Tesco to stay seperate and get the points etc.

I hope there is some technology investment because the Tesco Bank App is shockingly bad

I suspect the destination is more ‘cobranded Tesco products within Barclays overall offer’, but yes they certainly intend to maintain the ability to issue Clubcard points via their cards at least.

As far as I know Tesco clubcard pay+ accounts are remaining same branding and operation just under the control of Barclays on behalf of Tesco if high court gives go ahead for mass transfer of Tesco bank customers to Barclays Bank I do think Barclays Bank is superior but I don’t like them personally

Barclays doesnt support Google Pay…maybe this will make them? :grimacing:

Is this true?!

That’s what you get when the platform opens NFC payments to app developers. Barclays wants their slice of the pie and refuse to support Google Pay.

Watch this happen in the EU on Apple devices soon and one of the reasons why I really hate the regulatory meddling.

That said Barclays are supposedly slowly giving in to the pressure. I think the new Barclaycards support Google Pay(?) and they said debit would eventually follow. Probably just after Starling launch their credit card.

Barclays do support Google Pay as I have both my debit and Barclaycard in the app.

Maybe its just credit cards they dont support it on then

Barclaycard would be the credit card though…

From the MSE forum, it seems hit and miss for some Barclaycard users.

For example, my Barclaycard Rewards - supported

Barclaycard Freedom holders have suggested - not supported

So is it a rollout, or are some Barclaycard credit cards not compatible, for whatever reason :man_shrugging:

I thought debit cards are supported and credit cards aren’t. That’s what I gathered from the Barclays and Google Pay websites, but they must have started to let some credit cards be added if people elsewhere are saying so.

Seems like they have made it so that Barclaycard can now be added to Google Pay! I definitely couldn’t do this before.

It would also help if Tesco ATM’s would work reliably and not be switched off 1 in every 3 visits.

They’re not actually anything to do with Tesco, despite the branding. They’re run by Natwest.

interestingly (maybe), my Tesco bank app switched fingerprint ID off, when I switched it on, it asked me to set a 5 digit code (which is new and in line with Barclays as I recall)…maybe aligning systems a bit?
