Terrible Customer Service

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I have been unable to get into my account for nearly 6 weeks as the app has stopped working. Each time I try the magic link I get an error message pop up. I have tried all sorts of things to try and resolve it like reinstall the app, update phone software, changing my primary email etc. Nothing has worked. Monzo have done nothing to help. I feel totally abandoned. I have had no clarification as to what the problem is, no reassurance that it’s been looked into other than its been escalated. I have asked for someone to ring me and talk to me but had nothing back. I am desperate but I just can’t seem to get anywhere.

This is most definitely a user issue your side.

What device are you using?

Where are you downloading the app from?

What app version are you using?

Have you tried long pressing on the magic link and “copy link” and then paste this into your devices browser? Try the default browser first, and then Chrome (or install Chrome - set as default).

How can you do this if you can’t get into the app

I am sure it is something my end, thats why it’s massively frustrating that Monzo are taking so long to help. My app worked fine for years and nothing changed (still same phone etc) I download from the play store (android) I have tried the copy link into browser but no joy.

Monzo did this for me on one of my many phone calls.

Monzo can’t really help if it’s your end.

The magic link should direct to browser then to app in most instances.

What web browser do you have set as default?

I have chrome set as default but have tried Firefox as well to see if that helped (it didnt) i have previously tried copying link into browser but still get the same error message pop up. Its been 6 weeks now without access and I have tried a load of things that are meant to resolve the problem.

What phone are you using? Have you called the manufacturer to discuss with them the links from emails don’t open to the relevant apps?

Monzo can’t help with this, only issue with their app - this is a device issue that you need to resolve.

When you wiped your device clean, did you only download the monzo app and try it from scratch? Or restore device from back up as settings can come back in play.

Also, what email app are you using?

Points 2, 3 and 4 here may be causing the issue

To fix links in an Android email app that won’t open, try these steps: first, restart your phone and the email app. Then, check for app updates and update your device’s Android System WebView. Next, go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > Default apps and ensure you have a browser set as the default for opening links. If the problem persists, clear the cache for your email and browser apps, or toggle the in-app browser settings for your specific email service (like Gmail) on and off.

1. Restart Your Device and App

  • Restart your phone: to refresh the system processes.

  • Restart the email app: to refresh its behavior after a setting change.

2. Check for Updates

  • Update your email app: (e.g., Gmail) and your web browser (e.g., Chrome) from the Play Store.

  • Update Android System WebView: as it’s essential for opening links in browsers.

3. Verify Default App Settings

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > Opening links (or Browser App).

  • Make sure a web browser app is set as the default for handling web links.

4. Clear Cache

  • Go to Settings > Apps and select your email app and your browser (e.g., Chrome).

  • Select Storage and then Clear Cache for both apps.

5. Check Specific Email App Settings

  • Open your email app (like Gmail) and go to its Settings.

  • Find the setting for “Open web links in Gmail” or a similar option and try toggling it off and then back on again.

6. Reset App Preferences or Reinstall

  • If the issue is specific to the Gmail app, you can try deleting the update and then reinstalling the app from the Play Store.

  • You can also try resetting app preferences in your Android settings, which can fix misconfigured defaults.

7. Test Other Apps

  • Open a link in a different email app or another app (like a social media or messaging app).

  • If links open in other apps but not your email app, the problem is likely within the email app’s settings.

I hadn’t previously wiped my phone, everything had been working fine for years and then just went to open my account one day and it went to the home page where I had the choice of logging in or setting up a new account. Very odd that it would do that. I have gone through the different suggestions you kindly sent but still not working. Appreciate your help, been far more helpful in the last hour than Monzo has in the last 6 weeks!

Last thing I would suggest is deleting your web browser and reinstalling fresh, and making sure it is set to default, along with the “Opening links” setting being set as noted above.

Can you install the Google Maps app if you haven’t got it already, search a location on Google in the browser, and then click the Maps tab, see if that opens the app or goes to the web page.
