Ted Lasso talk (Apple TV)

I can believe that I only just realised that Trent Crimm (The Independent) is Ben from the first series of I’m Alan Partridge… :man_facepalming:

Please don’t remind me how old Alan Partridge is :older_man:

Please don’t remind me of how old I am! (I remember watching I’m Alan Partridge as a young adult.)

After watching the season finale I’m like… I enjoyed it, but didn’t get that feeling of joy I felt after the first season was over. I have so many thoughts though.

I’m shocked no one came down on Nate hard, even though it looked like Beard was about to.
I’m also shocked Roy would book a six week break without even asking - but very glad they didn’t go the obvious ‘It’s not working’ route. I much prefer the ‘Roy is insecure, but Keeley will help him get over it’ route.
Setting up Nate as the big villain alongside Anthony Head next season is a great move. Nate proved he can be a great coach and he knows all of Richmond’s weaknesses.
I assume Trent will become the clubs new PR person? I thought his scene was leading to him asking for a role somewhere. Though I don’t know why Keeley couldn’t continue with the club as a client of her new firm?! It would have been the first thing I’d expect her to ask, given she’s bff’s with the owner.

Oh, I didn’t think about that!

“Trent Crimm, AFC Richmond”

I thought the same about Keeley having the club as a client, but wondered if it was too much of a full time job for her to do.

Here we go again.

Added Truth Be Told to my list, thanks for the recommendation. Season 1 binged already, was easy to guess who it was, Season 2 more complex. :+1:

Thanks to the chat on here I gave Ted Lasso a go, even though I’m not into football. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and will now have to find something equally compelling to fill the void

Not going to lie… I’m genuinely furious with Nate. I understand where they are taking him but I wanted a bit of comeuppance.

I do also think that they way in which “people” responded to Ted’s panic attacks aren’t quite as realistic as it would be in reality (as much as things need to improve with mental health) but I can see how it’s a part of the show for this to have happened.

Loved that Twitter thread :eyes:

Season 2 being complete is probably for the best because I don’t know how much more Ted Lasso related sadness I could deal with.

Nate seems to be giving off big Jose Mourinho vibes towards the end of the season and I look forward to him talking :poop: about Ted in conferences and Ted killing him with kindness.

Just finished Season 2. Enjoyed it overall. Nice to see various character arcs veering to the unexpected.

Loved all the authentic football details (Roy on Sky Sports, Linekar and Henry, going to Wembley…) as they really just add a little something,

Equally got very put off by the constant Apple product placement. Never seen a show where people are so frequently on phones, tablets, laptops. At this point, Ted’s son literally exists just to advertise FaceTime. The TV equivalent of a Samsung logo on your phone bezel.

I must be the only one who didn’t care about that. It’s an Apple TV programme, and after a few minutes it just faded from my mind and I wouldn’t have noticed it again.

Tbh it’s not like I saw anything where I thought “no way they would use that Apple product” - realistically there’s a good chance in reality a lot of these characters would use Apple products.

I can’t remember which series I watched, but I was definitely struck by the observation that the good people were using Apple products, but the baddies, where they used technology at all, were using unbranded non Apple products.

I’ve also noticed in non Apple productions that Apple products are never used by the bad guys. Once I noticed it, I see it everywhere now.

One of the characters in Mythic Quest uses an unbranded laptop as opposed to everyone else who uses Apple gear.

Thoughts on this?

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a) it hadn’t even occurred to me there was no LGBTQ+ representation in the show, and b) I don’t expect representation in every single show just for the sake of it.

Not a member of the LGBTQ+ community but I have to admit that I was expecting a “coming out” story when I started watching it.

The lack of representation didn’t register with me, otherwise. I don’t know whether that’s a good thing or bad…

I don’t need a gay character to be able to enjoy a show. I wouldn’t want that to be the default way shows are made either.

You don’t need to have a special narrative to have a diverse cast that’s represenative of one of the most diverse cities in the world. Characters can just be non-white or LGBQT without having to have a specific storyline about it.

I didn’t notice that but, now that I think about it, it could work. Not as a political statement but just for the story. So long as it’s not the Dutch guy - that would be rather stereotypical. Maybe Dani?

The one with the Lambo who was going to Sharon and telling himself he is a capable man? Agreed if they’re the same.
