Summary - Feedback thread

Would be great if we could override the ring’s “next payrol” function/assumption by setting an overall Target. The overall target would then be set as the amount left to spend within a month and any committed spending would be subtracted from that amount.

This would be particularly useful for those of us who don’t get paid by a salary

I would like the pennies to be included at all times. I’m not too keen on the rounded numbers. Pennies as well would really help.

My monthly report has different headline figures for “total in” and “total out” to the Full Summary. Also, I paid £1300 OUT of Pots, and the figures show this correctly, but the bar looks like it was £1300 in…

In and out of pots is with respect to the man balance so any pot withdrawal which increases the main balance is an ‘ in’.

I know this is the way it works but it still screws with my brain every time I see it :pensive:

I find the new screen you get when your account is in credit at the end of the month quite patronising. Why do I need to be congratulated and have fireworks on my screen?

so if it is not in credit what do you get? an emoji sticking it’s tongue out?

My main gripes are not being about to tap into a category and swipe to see previous months. I often use this to compare spending from month to month, or check what bills are still due to be taken out. Doing this now is a 5 tap process.

Hi there,

I’m bitterly disappointed that the spending summary is still completely useless after it’s revamp. The spending figures still do not update when you get refunds for things (they only take your initial spend), or if you use the bill splitting feature (as I do a lot) and get a lot of money back in for things I’m “spending”.

My spending is nearly DOUBLE what it actually is due to the above. How hard can it really be to update the spending figures with received money for those items/categories so that the spending summary tab is correct. Currently, the entire spending summary is useless for me.

What needs to happen:

  • When a refund comes back in for an item, it should automatically be attributed to the same spending category and deducted from the summary totals
  • When a bill is split and someone pays, it should automatically be attributed to the same spending category and deducted from the totals (and ideally update the original purchase to the amount I paid minus what I got in - with a note reminding me of what happened)
  • Any incoming money should be able to be categorised and the respective totals in spending be updated

I’m really struggling to see how this hasn’t been addressed for about a year - it can’t be that complicated to fix and it’s quite a broken feature right now.

Incoming split bills - have you tried re-catergorising the incoming payments against the category you want it credited to ? ( this admittedly only affects the target totals not the actual payment detail of the bill  ) bit difficult for Monzo to know that John Doe paid you back 2 days later for a meal ???

I think the answer here is that it is quite complicated to fix properly which is what I understand Monzo to be doing.

I may have got the wrong end of the stick somewhere (and I’ll almost certainly use some incorrect terminology along the way), but my understanding is that there’s a massive project going on to allow feed items to have multiple components. This is what will eventually enable the Coin Jar top-ups to be hidden, it’ll enable refunds or partial refunds to be collapsed into the original transaction and it’d allow a similar thing to happen for monzo.me payments splitting the bill.

From what I’ve gathered, this is a pretty major undertaking but it’ll definitely be worth it

Hey @Skylights - I’ve moved your post here so feedback for Summary is all in one place.

For the first time today I noticed that income from another Monzo user did reduce my spending in that category (after I categorised it as such). This wasn’t carried out via the split bill function either. However that income is not listed in INCOME which it really should be.

Hi @tomsr ,

Ok, just did some further testing and think it might be for money received a while ago as the ones today seem to work.

Seems many previous payments received don’t have the option of categorisation, but recent ones do.

A previous standing order that I could and did categorise doesn’t deduct from summary totals, but again, that was received before spending was updated.

I’ll see if next month it’s all rectified…

Formatting bug…seem to have all titles truncated even though there is a huge amount of space…any reason for this?!

As you can see “SPENDI…” and “COMMITTED SPEN…” and “INCO…”

truncation

I mentioned this already, they are investigating.

I’ve also messaged in app about this and was told that they are aware, and it could also be due to having your text size in iOS set to a smaller setting than the default - either way, as Danny says, it’s being investigated :+1:

Signed up just to give my feedback on the new Summary page. Been using Monzo for a year and everything has been incremental improvements. But the new summary page really doesn’t work for me unfortunately.

  • I can’t select a category to get a drill down with the exact total spent within that category on top any more
  • The giant “Left to spend” adds no value, I already know my balance from the home page, but adds extra unnecessary scrolling to view spending. Number of days to go, don’t need that either there’s a calendar…
  • I now need to tap and select for previous months to compare, before I could just swipe
  • Spending section now has a “More” button, I can’t just scroll but have to tap more to see spending on other categories

Sorry for the ranting but I hope this is useful feedback. Thanks.

Welcome to the community

In future, the plan is for “Left to Spend” to exclude subscriptions, standing orders, presented direct debits, etc. Direct debits they are to leave your account in the next 1-2 days are already considered.

Doesn’t seem to work for me. Spending report shows I spent £1000 on holiday, when in fact much was split through Monzo with friends. Holiday category is high as well so it’s not specific to the spending report.
