Starling Feedback

Starling is definitely good but I can’t see myself recommending them anymore (I used to mention it along with Monzo) given how unreliable they’ve been lately. Hopefully this will change.

Starling has also been accepted into the EU’s payment system for large euro transactions, allowing it to process faster payments for major companies and big banks.

Well that will be ok up until 11pm UK time on Friday 29 March, 2019 :upside_down_face:

Also how can they process these payments when they can just about manage their own?

I am sure UK banks will need this post Brexit as well. Business and banking is not going to stop with EU after Brexit

(I hope)

This is my concern too.

Starling announces integration with Yoyowallet.

Nope. Me neither.

Is it another London only thing. I didn’t recognise the 4 retailers that were in the announcement

Great customer service from Starling today… I can’t get into my app all of a sudden due to the maximum five device rule (although I’ve been logged in since I got my most recent device :man_shrugging:t3:).

Anyway… I DM’d them via Twitter and asked how I can sort it as I don’t have access to a previous device and they replied asking me to call them. So I then ask for the number, they reply and tell me their number is only available for customers via the app. Erm? I just told you I can’t get into the app

Is this some shoddy legacy Bank customer service or what?

Update: They said they will call me so they did. Asked me for name, address, DOB and the expiry date on my driving license as security. Not sure how I feel about the last one…

I’m really conflicted on the Starling vs Monzo debate. I have posted on the Starling forum how I worry about them becoming more corporate and more like a traditional bank - I feel more confident that Monzo won’t go down this route. There is nothing to dislike about Starling at present, and they are further along the road than Monzo by quite a margin. It partly a question of how much patience you have to wait for Monzo to catch up on features such as overdrafts, etc.

If I was just looking on this as a bank account with a functional app, then Starling would be a non brainer based on current features. However, there is something undefinable that keeps pulling me back to Monzo. There are aspects of the app that I prefer, but it more than just that. I’m sure at least some people will do what I’m doing - use and enjoy both, and make a decision of which one to commit to next year.

Really? Because I couldn’t care less about an overdraft, and care a lot about accepting me as a US citizen, not calling me by a gendered title when I’m non-binary, and having an API to play with.

It’s all relative. Nothing is so absolute. I think Monzo is much further along.

They do have an API, have you checked it out?

As for further along. Technically yes. The rest all a matter of personal views and opinions

If you used your driving license to verify your ID that is a good idea. Only you likely to have access to it and unlike your date of birth not something anyone likely to find by trawling social media. Also with check digits in it is not going to be guessed.

I haven’t checked out their API at all, to be fair. And isn’t anything a matter of opinion? Monzo has far more customers. That’s further along!

Depends on the measure

GRRRR Starling what have you done this time???!

Different people will like different things about each one. When I’m using Starling I miss the notes feature that Monzo offer. I’ve started using Goals, but Pots lunch on Android next week so that will level the playing field a bit.

It’s easy for me to flit between the two at the moment, as I’m only transferring money into one or the other to use for work expenses and fuel purchases. When I take the plunge and move DD’s and salary, I’ll have to settle on one or the other. Both are good options in comparison to traditional banks.

An excellent and fair summary, @anon28029547

Starling will move your DD’s for you as they have CASS, Monzo don’t. But not a reason to choose Starling either way.

I’m the same as you really, both have their quirks that I like. I’m not sure which way I’ll go just yet.
