NOOOOO!!! :rage:

Sidenote:

Monzo should do this as well.

I’ve signed up for early access, be interesting to see if I make it given my comments directed at them recently but worth a try

Really happy to see this. I’m looking to close my legacy euro bank account, and a replacement like this fits the bill perfectly. Annoyingly, though, I need to do it in person… Mini-break time.

My legacy Euro account is with KBC Ireland. I’d really only want a Starling Euro account 1) because hopefully it’s free and 2) because I like to keep all my banking in one place if I can.

That said KBC is one of the best banks I’ve used and if they offered Sterling accounts I’d probably drop my UK banking and move all my accounts to Ireland

Is this new? It was only recently they said euro accounts were on hold until after Brexit I thought?

Edit:

We previously announced our intention to enter the Irish market in 2018. Once the full implications of the UK’s Brexit deal are understood, whatever the outcome, it’s our intention to launch a Starling proposition in key European markets during 2019.

Their annual report said that expansion into other European countries would be next year, now. We did wonder a bit whether that meant that euro accounts would come for UK residents before then. It seems that they are!

True, they aren’t the same thing

Maybe they’re finally listening to feedback and launching ā€œearly accessā€ to test it for bugs

Monzo have done similar to what you don’t like in recent past when they were testing Marketplace. They did show feed items for Bulb energy switching to people even when they were not paying energy bills via Monzo.
I do hope Monzo will not use Ads like feed items but I have a strong suspicion they will try to push Marketplace offering this way.

Hopefully any marketplace ā€˜feed item ads’ will be opt in.

Any feed manipulation from a bank is a no-go for me. There was controversy around ā€˜promoted’ Tweets in the feed on Twitter, and ads in the Facebook News feed, and those aren’t even financial institutions.

If you want to throw up a modal to promote a new feature, or maybe even put something on the transaction view out the way, that’s fine. But don’t go messing up transaction feeds/lists.

IMO there’s a difference between an advert and Monzo highlighting that bulb will actually/genuinely save you money from looking at previous British Gas bills for example.

I have no idea how Monzo plan to manage this, and I tend to agree. A loan vs. a money saving change is one thing. I don’t think the feed is the right place, however I will note that Monzo does allow removing some feed items and I’d hope these are included.

N26 is huge in Europe, so they will have a lot of hard work ahead of them to promote themselves as a viable alternative. I much prefer Monzo’s approach, who are taking their time to actually perfect their UK account first.

From a business perspective, sadly Starling are way ahead of the curve on this. I’ve dealt with pretty much all the banks over time, and it’s such a nightmare to get started and to run the account that anything would be an improvement. I don’t do much EU business as of late, but I can’t see any major competition EU wise.

I’m not sure that looking at someone’s energy DD will allow Monzo to know that Bulb would save them money.

+1 for not having my transaction feed polluted with offers.

Oh, so they released it. Last I heard they were waiting on a weekday because CS support load increases and they need developers on hand to fix any showstopper bugs that occur.

I thought that’d been out for weeks…
