No censorship eh???
Where is this place?
NOOOOO!!!
Sidenote:
Monzo should do this as well.
Iāve signed up for early access, be interesting to see if I make it given my comments directed at them recently but worth a try
Really happy to see this. Iām looking to close my legacy euro bank account, and a replacement like this fits the bill perfectly. Annoyingly, though, I need to do it in person⦠Mini-break time.
My legacy Euro account is with KBC Ireland. Iād really only want a Starling Euro account 1) because hopefully itās free and 2) because I like to keep all my banking in one place if I can.
That said KBC is one of the best banks Iāve used and if they offered Sterling accounts Iād probably drop my UK banking and move all my accounts to Ireland
Is this new? It was only recently they said euro accounts were on hold until after Brexit I thought?
Edit:
We previously announced our intention to enter the Irish market in 2018. Once the full implications of the UKās Brexit deal are understood, whatever the outcome, itās our intention to launch a Starling proposition in key European markets during 2019.
Their annual report said that expansion into other European countries would be next year, now. We did wonder a bit whether that meant that euro accounts would come for UK residents before then. It seems that they are!
True, they arenāt the same thing
Maybe theyāre finally listening to feedback and launching āearly accessā to test it for bugs
Monzo have done similar to what you donāt like in recent past when they were testing Marketplace. They did show feed items for Bulb energy switching to people even when they were not paying energy bills via Monzo.
I do hope Monzo will not use Ads like feed items but I have a strong suspicion they will try to push Marketplace offering this way.
Hopefully any marketplace āfeed item adsā will be opt in.
Any feed manipulation from a bank is a no-go for me. There was controversy around āpromotedā Tweets in the feed on Twitter, and ads in the Facebook News feed, and those arenāt even financial institutions.
If you want to throw up a modal to promote a new feature, or maybe even put something on the transaction view out the way, thatās fine. But donāt go messing up transaction feeds/lists.
IMO thereās a difference between an advert and Monzo highlighting that bulb will actually/genuinely save you money from looking at previous British Gas bills for example.
Monzo Makes Money Work For Everyone
I have no idea how Monzo plan to manage this, and I tend to agree. A loan vs. a money saving change is one thing. I donāt think the feed is the right place, however I will note that Monzo does allow removing some feed items and Iād hope these are included.
N26 is huge in Europe, so they will have a lot of hard work ahead of them to promote themselves as a viable alternative. I much prefer Monzoās approach, who are taking their time to actually perfect their UK account first.
From a business perspective, sadly Starling are way ahead of the curve on this. Iāve dealt with pretty much all the banks over time, and itās such a nightmare to get started and to run the account that anything would be an improvement. I donāt do much EU business as of late, but I canāt see any major competition EU wise.
Iām not sure that looking at someoneās energy DD will allow Monzo to know that Bulb would save them money.
+1 for not having my transaction feed polluted with offers.
Nearby payments is that?? Ohhhhh ok
Oh, so they released it. Last I heard they were waiting on a weekday because CS support load increases and they need developers on hand to fix any showstopper bugs that occur.
I thought thatād been out for weeksā¦
