Starling Bank Chat (Part 2)

:handshake: that’s a good point. Imo people can start thinking about christmas and playing christmas music from 1st december. No earlier.

A bit crap that they don’t show the minimum deposit requirement up front and instead bury it in a paragraph within the T&Cs. Not sure it’d fly in the UK.

Never. Instead the bank would just entirely remove the current account interest whilst not replacing it with something else for Teen & Joint customers.

cough Starling cough

Lil pun there I see. Cuz Starling Bank. Starling. Bird.

I’ll see myself out

While this has annoyed me it also means I can look for another savings account elsewhere, which is always fun.

I find https://www.finder.com/uk/ really useful for finding accounts. The website can be a little hard to navigate, but once you get to know it, it’s really useful. idk maybe you already know about it lol.

Is Starling ever likely to launch packaged bank accounts? I feel like if they made some that were just a tiny bit better than Monzo’s, they would definitely get some people switching over, as well as some new customers.

I feel like they have the market balanced. If you want simplicity, use Starling. If you want a more rounded package with extras, use Monzo.

My only gripe with Monzo is why they charge for virtual cards when Starling does it for free……

The issue is, I don’t think Starling is, or ever was, simple. And Chase now fits that niche better. So I’m not quite sure where Starling fit. They’re like a worst of both worlds to me.

That’s really interesting. I’d say Starling has absolutely got the minimalist, simple look, which makes them really easy to use. If you need something, it’s either in the bottom row of 5 tabs, or visible when you press your profile.

I’d say Starling does everything exactly right. They’re serious enough to be a proper bank, whilst still having that FinTech feel about them.

Obviously just my opinions

And an opinion I wholeheartedly agree with. It’s each to their own. There is no one package fits all here. They all offer similar, but different options. It’s what fits best for the individual customer.

I personally like the simplicity that Starling offer but also like some of the ‘extra’s’ that Monzo offer although I never understand why ‘some’ are charged for.

Just in terms of aesthetics, sure. I can see that, especially now the pie is gone. But simplicity is a lot more than just the way something looks.

I found the sign up flow to the be the most complex of the fintechs I’ve used (it’s what put me off them initially). It was archaic with remnants of legacy design thinking, it just looked nicer. The app itself, I didn’t find well structured either, which is another simplicity point against them.

Chase excel in both those areas much better, and in a few ways, so does Monzo.

Video verifications appear to be taking awhile tonight, I just tried to sign in with my iPad and it said it was gonna take an hour and a half. Understandable because it is Sunday evening they could say no we can do it Monday to Friday?

Wow. That’s surprising. There’s no new tech release or something like that. It must get crazy when a new iPhone/Android launches. Hundreds of thousands of new log-in videos to review.

Bloody hell. The one time I tried to log in on my ex-iPad it said 20 mins (which was extremely accurate)

Customers want to be able to log in on new device 24/7 though. I know I certainly wouldn’t want to be forced to wait up to 48 hours to log in.

They could make an automated thing like Monzo though… it’s obviously secure enough for Monzo.

Please do let us know how long it actually takes to log in

I wasn’t saying that they should only do Monday to Friday, I’m just a little bit surprised that it’s a 1 1/2 hour wait, Like this is the thing that AI was designed for

An AI could review the video?

I’m not complaining it’s good though, as it keeps people in the job and it’s not as if I need immediate access, I just wanted to see it on the bigger screen, which is not something I can do with Monzo

Isn’t it already meant to be automated? Only falling back to the less timely manual process if the automated one fails?

Doesn’t look very automated
