Star Wars or Star Trek?

Well, I suppose every trekkie has there favourites over the years and don’t think I had ever watched the rebooted version of Battlestar Galactica, only the original but we’d be going off-topic for that series.

Agreed.

Do you have Amazon Prime? There is an amazing 2018 documentary on there called “What We Left Behind”.

It was made by the head writer of DS9 and they discuss how the show came about, all of the inside info, the writing process, interviews with the cast etc. DS9 was actually quite groundbreaking in many ways.

I’d suggest giving it a watch.

My brain can’t make me choose between the two… I’m sorry.

Coming to a TV screen near you Trek Wars

90s Star Trek is my jam.

As a language teacher “Darmok” is a wonderful piece of telly.

Yeah I have Amazon Prime, I’ll have a look for that. I enjoy a good Trek documentary!

Yeah, although the link would be RDM’s great writing. Its probably my favourite sci-fi of recent times after The Expanse. That is also excellent!

Brilliant show. Holden…

Star Trek Discovery and DS9 Spoiler Alert

Don’t read any further if you have not yet watched either.

I can’t remember which season of Discovery it was but there is a time traveller in a red suit and I was very disappointed by the reveal that it was Michael’s random mother because in my head the time traveller should have been Sisko - didn’t he go off with the Wormhole Aliens who exist out of time? And Michael should have been the baby he left behind in some weird trippy time travel lark, I thought that would have been a great continuation.

Indeed. The so-called “Prophets”.

No. I wouldn’t have liked that, at all.

Definitely not. “Trippy” has no place in Trek.

It didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. They were building up to that reveal.

“Random” mother? What made her random?

Was that the main dude? James Holden?

Avasarala was my favourite character. She was :ok_hand:t4: such a shady cow! :joy:

Am I allowed to say neither?

If I had to choose one though, probably Star Wars but only because of BB-8.

I love sci-fi, and I love space, I love aliens, and I love space magic. But idk what it is about these shows and films, but I generally can’t stand them.

I really tried with The Expanse, and went into it as a pre-existing fan of one of the actors (Shohreh Aghdashloo), so I had every reason to want to like. And I know @Peter_G hates me for it, but I just didn’t enjoy it. Couldn’t get into it. :frowning:

I keep meaning to give it another try.

Which actor?

Shohreh Aghdashloo

This is so common with everyone I’ve recommended it to. I kinda feel the first season kind of doesn’t reel people in too well. I persevered through it, but for me, it’s from season 2 onwards it really takes off and I begun to love it.

So it must have hooked you in right from the jump then, isn’t the first scene him having a bit of “hows your father” in zero G? :joy:

The Expanse took the science quite seriously, even hiring Physicists to oversee the creation of the space-based scenes, to ensure accuracy.

For me, this attention to detail really made the show. They didn’t go for cheap thrills.
