According to Monzo, I have a direct debit that’s due to come out in 4 days. That is correct. However that amount is not reflected in my Left to Spend amount (which equates to my current account balance). The amount Left to Spend is for 6 days, so it can’t be that Monzo thinks this direct debit will come out after the salary gets paid in. It appears I’ve been caught by this further in that this DD should be coming out of a pot, and when going into the pot it says the last time this DD came out was 28th of June, yet it doesn’t register this upcoming payment nor does it tell me there isn’t enough funds in the pot (pot currently is at 0 pounds). At the beginning of the month )(2nd July) I’ve transferred all the funds into the pot from the Current Account that Monzo calculated would be going out of the pot, and I’ve clearly missed the fact that this particular DD has not gone into it. The DD isn’t new - drilling into the upcoming DD entry for it shows it’s indeed last been taken on 28th of June and therefore is of the same series.
A bit disappointed.
Details to reproduce: Yeah good luck with that. OS: Android. Device: Irrelevant. App Version: Latest at time of writing.
Screenshots: Unable to provide due to privacy. I hardly doubt I’ve done anything weird, bog standard functionality that I remember working before. Other users bound to have stumbled upon this (with some probably running out of money for a bill due to incorrectly being shown they’ve more to spend).
EDIT: Having given it a little more thought, I think a part of the issue is here: Monzo doesn’t deduct the DD amount from the “Left to Spend” amount because it (falsely) thinks that DD would come out from the pot to which it is assigned. The bug seems to be in that there isn’t money allocated in the pot for that DD - as it stands - so it has to deduct it from “Left to Spend”, but doesn’t. If I understood this all correctly that is. The other part of the issue: why Monzo didn’t consider this DD when showing me the amount I need to transfer from the Current Account into the pot I pay my bills from? That’s a separate issue it seems, but it is rather odd, and that’s why the first part of where I think the bug might lurk may be wrong, and the issue is in fact that this DD is ignored by Monzo altogether, whether in its calculations for outstanding bills to pay from pots, or in the “Left to Spend” amount.
Hey, thanks for your reply. It’s shown on the “Home” tab, I have to slide the whole page down to see tiles at the top, which when editing says “Edit spotlights” - so that’s what they are. In my spotlights, I have “Left to spend” enabled and nothing else. There is a slider at the top which says “Show in Home” which is enabled. Since you’ve mentioned Trends and Summary, I’ve gone into Trends, and initially nothing was displayed as I had no account selected at the top (maybe I’ve not played with this since things have changed / app updated / I had to re-log in, not sure); but when going into the dropdown and selecting my main (and only) account, Trends data appears, and there is a “Left to spend” near the bottom which shows the same incorrect amount. Summary (which also appear not to have been used for a while due to Monzo showing me its “Welcome to Summary” wizard thing at first) also shows the same incorrect amount. Monzo just doesn’t factor this upcoming DD anywhere and missed it on 2nd of July when it didn’t include it in the amount that I transferred to my Bills pot (not manually but using the controls/buttons from the pot window).
Hi David, thank you - I’ve since found this option for the affected DD, but not turned it on yet because I wanted to investigate a little further as to why “Repeating subscriptions” option is not showing when clicking on the upcoming payment row for the DD in Activity section for the account, nor when going into “Upcoming” area of the pot under Scheduled payments - which shows 4 against upcoming, but when going into it, it shows 5 rows including the DD that’s affected. Nor is it showing when clicking on the affected DD in that list. So to find and be able to enable this option for this DD, I have to look at a historic payment, e.g. clicking on “Number of payments” (currently showing as 12), and in that list I can see the grayed out upcoming payment, and below non-grayed out historic payments, and clicking on any of those, “Repeating subscriptions” (as well as “Exclude from spending Summary”) appear at the bottom, both turned off. Similarly, as per your suggestion, when going to the “Payments” tab (on the main screen, next to “Trends”), then going into the Scheduled tab there, and clicking on the affected DD, there’s no “Repeating subscription” option (nor “Exclude from spending Summary” for that matter).
Looking through recent transactions, I can see that this DD was not included in calculations for some time - so I am incorrect saying this DD has been included before/recently. It must have been me turning it off at some point, that’s the only explanation, but I can’t recall the reason, and it may have been by accident.
Now, let me enable “Repeating subscriptions” as I write this … okay, Monzo offered to move this into Subscriptions/Committed spending (or some such). Now, the pot complains there isn’t enough money in it. Good. The “Exclude from summary” option has disappeared though. The “Left to spend” amount has not been updated and remains incorrect. The same with Trends if I only have the main account ticked, but if I also tick my bills Pot, the Estimated balance amount at the bottom reflects this DD. I’d have preferred the tile (Spotlight) to show overall remaining funds to spend, which is why I’ve added it there. Restarts the app to see as a final check. Nope - that amount is still incorrect. So I’ve added the missing funds to the pot, and everything is okay now - the Spotlight tile shows the correct amount, Trends shows the correct amount with just the main account ticked. I can live with this. Thank you for your time and sorry for what ultimately appears to be a problem between computer and chair.
