Please assist me!! I am trying to send money to my Monzo account from my South African FNB account. It keeps asking me for Branch/Routing/IFSC Code/Fedwire or it says my BIC/Swift code is wrong. I then thought I managed to get a IBAN number which turned out to be invalid as well.
I emailed WBForex and they want me to open a Mercantile account in the UK? After having my mind set on Monzo, that is not an option for me.
Please explain how I can send money to my Monzo account.
Thank you, I really feel so useless! On transferwise how do I do this? I loaded my FNB account as my account and the recipient my Monzo account now when I say send money it takes me to a calculated page where ZAR south africa is not an option?
Hi
Not sure if this is a new post or NOT as I am not used to blogging, so it may be a reply.
First i must say I love Monzo UK, I was excited to learn they are also opening up in the USA.
Now not so much, this bank in its present form cannot survive here, as Banking USA is totally different.
Checks (Cheques) here are very much alive and part of the Norm. There needs to be an easy way to deposit funds into your account, mailing it off to a distant place will not cut it, and if you transfer from another Bank account what is the point of MONZO. Here with Digital deposits, yep take a picture of your check to be deposited front and rear hit send to pay it in. Checks are still classed as a form of payment, but Monzo doesnât have checks. I was really hoping it was going to be like Ally Bank. If MONZO is going to make the impact it deserves it needs to fall in line with other banking institutions. Think of it as an iPhone with no camera, it probably wouldnât sell. So it really needs digital deposits and ATM withdrawals.
Most peoples comments on cheque imaging are in regards to here in the UK where theyâre less common. The section for Monzo in the USA is below where I believe the team responsible regularly chat with customers.
Is seems that you can transfer GBP (or other currencies) to ZAR, but not the other way around.
Thereâs a contact link at the bottom of that page, you could drop them a line to find out if this is likely to change.
Edit: Some countries have restrictions on taking currency out of the country, maybe this is the reason? I checked a couple other currency transfer sites and neither offered sending from ZAR either.
just opened my account. can i spend on it straight away. how much credit do i have.

You should be able to add your card to Apple/Google Pay immediately, in advance of receiving your debit card.
There is no credit facility initially â itâs a bank account, not a credit card â but you can ask for an overdraft or even a loan if you want. Bear in mind that Monzo are conservative lenders, and credit is not guaranteed.
Loving finding my way round Monzo and learning what it can do.
These might have been covered elsewhere, but some initial questions from me:
Do people usually pay their bills/DDâs from their main account or from pots? Or is it down to personal preference? If from pots (such as a bills pot) how do you ensure you have enough money in the pot each month to ensure they get paid?
I joined Monzo using a full switch, therefore all my regular payments got brought over. How do I know whether all these are active or not? Some are not easily identifiable by their names. My old bank had a list of payments, some of which hadnât been been made in a while, such as old DDâs, so Iâm wondering if some of the list includes these.
Is there a way of viewing earlier balances? Sometimes it is useful to know what my balance was on a particular day, but I canât seem to see this as the activity or history screens only show transactions.
The amount that it shows as having left for the month doesnât take into account any regular payments that will come out, therefore the figure is artificially high. Is there a way round this, or will I have to wait until the first monthâs cycle has taken place so that Monzo recognises which payments will be made in subsequent months.
I have a âCommitted Spendingâ pot that all my Direct Debits and Standing Orders come out of. Regular payments/subscriptions like Spotify, Prime etc are not currently supported to be paid from pots yet though.
Some people have many pots for specific bills. Itâs up to you really.
When you add all your bills to a pot and the app can see how much it expects to come out itâll show a total. Just top it up to that amount. If thereâs not enough in the pot itâll take it from your main account.
The easiest way to do this is to wait for each Scheduled Payment to go out. Ones that have estimated values appear next to them are the active ones. Give it a month or two to narrow down which are which, then you can cancel any that seem inactive.
Not at the moment - but there have been some sneak peeks that this may be possible in the long term. Monzo are currently scoping ideas to improve dates insight/budgeting stuff like this.
Youâll have to wait for the first payment of each regular payment to go out first. Then you can tap the transaction and say when your expect it to repeat.
Oh and welcome!

Federal Tax Service asked me to show the confirmation of activation date of Monzo card. I need to prove that I didnât see my account details last year. Even though my Monzo account was opened in November (according to the app), I didnât have Monzo card last year and I couldnât use it. Any ideas about what to do? Could Monzo do this kind of confirmation for me? I asked Monzo in the chat, but they canât help me there.
If they canât help you in chat, thereâs nowhere else theyâll be able to help you with a request like this. I suggest trying chat again and asking if you can be passed on to a specialist who can help you with this issue. Seems Monzo should be able to see when you activated the card.
