Simple Questions Thread (Newbie Friendly 🙂)

Hi,

What does Monzo do with all the user images and selfie videos captured by users? Are they stored somewhere or deleted after verification? How do you associate them with user accounts?

Thanks for making banking interesting!

I believe they keep them on file to help with verification further down the line.

I remember someone recently had lost access to their email account so wanted it changing. Monzo asked for a selfie with their card presumably to match it against the one you gave when you signed up

So is there facial recognition technology or is this a manual process? It’d also be interesting to know how they stored this and associated it with the customer. I guess it just sits in a folder somewhere with a manual naming method unless they’re doing anything more clever.

I think it is checked by a human alongside the valid form of ID you submitted.

I also believe it would be stored with the mobile number you provide at sign-up as this forms part of your overall “account” - obviously all within GDPR guidelines.

If they are still using the Jumio service then a lot of it is automated but there is still manual check if things don’t match up in the automated process and to perform quality control checks

Hi Monzo Community!!!

Currently in the process of switching over my personal account from another high street bank who seems to offer no service which i have to pay for :unamused:

But i’m really excited to understand how i can get a Monzo Business Account! Please, please , please… can i get one!

I was made aware of Monzo through my involvement with Amazon Web Services who told me about Monzo! Exciting bank and look forward to see what you do next!

:raised_hands:

The business account is in a very limited trial stage at the moment. It could be months until they’ve iterated it enough to offer it to everyone

This is an old thread, so may be out of date, but I think you will find it interesting.

Why am I only able to put £700 GBP cash on in my account? My understanding was a £1000 in cash was permissable over 6 months.

Yep, it’s £1000. Is it saying £700 on your limits page?

Hello there,

We are looking to set up a joint account with Monzo. Can you please answer the following questions which we cannot see on your FAQs. In fact, for a company where clarity is at the heart of what you do, we are very disappointed.

  • As we are not current Monzo customers, do we have to setup separate accounts first or can we open a joint account straightaway?

  • Will we receive a card for the joint account as your online help implies that you switch between them on the app?

Thank you in advance,
BecchiBear

You both need to set up sole accounts before you can open a joint account

Yes you’ll both receive joint account debit cards separate to your sole accounts and both with their own limits

The FAQs link to this page which answers everything you asked?

Apologies, it feels rather grey and the user has to assume that you need an account first. A simple step 1. step 2. step 3. would be easier to follow.

All we’d like to do is switch one joint account to a Monzo joint account without having to set up separate accounts ourselves. Our understanding from the above is that this is not possible.

There’s a blog for that

Sounds like you need to open a joint account first, that would require personal accounts to do so. Then you switch in app.

So in three steps.

  1. Open Monzo Accounts
  2. Open Joint Accounts
  3. Use the CASS service in app.

The first sentence in the article I linked you to says:

When you’ve got a minute give it a read. If you give some feedback on what’s hard to understand from the article I’m sure Monzo will appreciate the feedback

Hey,

I have received a cheque however they are in my middle name rather than my first name. Can i still cash this in to my Monzo account?

Thanks

I would imagine it will cause difficulties, not just with Monzo, but with any bank.

I’d suggest that you ask whoever sent the cheque to correct their mistake and issue another.

A cheque should match the name on the account it’ll be paid into. From a bank’s perspective, you could be paying in a cheque intended for someone else with a similar name for all they know.

Could the issuer write you another one?

Hi All, On MonzoApp, how would I reconcile a receipt (paper slip or Apple Wallet) against a transaction in my history? Is that a thing?
Thx in advance.
