Just wondering if it’s any coincidence that I’ve signed up for Monzo which needed my number and now I’ve had missed calls from Russia, Morocco etc…?!

No doubt a coincidence, if this happened regularly I’m sure more people would be complaining about. Sorry to hear it’s happening though!
Would you really expect them to come on here and admit it if they did?
Agree with all the above, just a coincidence. If you’re on Android configure your spam caller ID settings 
You can do it on iOS too, by disabling callers who aren’t in your contacts

What did the calls say?
Monzo has not sent your data to Morocco and Russia. I believe it would be in breach of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) if you started receiving such unsolicited calls.
It is far more likely that a careless friend with your number has given away your details. Most people have given away friends’ data like this, for example; when they allow the Facebook app to upload their contacts, most people don’t ask their friends’ permission.
That would make quite the story in the press, Telegraph would have fun for sure
