Select pots for designated subscription.

Direct debit offers a feature that allows users to pay through pots. However, I believe it would be beneficial to extend this functionality to subscriptions, enabling users to pay for their subscriptions indirectly rather than directly depleting their balances. This approach would allow users to retain the funds in their balances for future purposes. Thank you.

Hi @Scottpitkethley & welcome

Unfortunately, a Subscription (CPA) is a ‘random debit’ rather than a planned debit and so Monzo can’t predict when (and how much) it will be taken. So it can’t plan for it to be designated from a pot either.

Unless I’m missing the point, this is exactly what you can do with Virtual cards using paid plans.

That is exactly the use case.

Exactly what I did, have a subs pot and a virtual card. Also much safer as you can easily ditch your virtual card if it ever gets compromised, vs replacing your actual debit card

Yes, you can do it with a VC if on a paid plan.

Trip down memory lane - Another way around it (pre-VC’s and no paid plan required) was to use PayPal as an intermediary by setting up PayPal to pay the subscription, then assigning the upcoming Paypal payments in Monzo to be paid from a chosen pot. Details here:

Monzo requires a paid subscription for virtual cards, which you’d need to then update the card details for each subscription to the virtual card.

Starling Bank offer these for free applied to Spaces.

Revolut offers virtual cards for free, and once the first payment is collected, subsequent payments can be assigned to a Pocket to be debit from there.
