Very disappointing indeed!
I think you’ll be disappointed regardless, given the odds of you winning ![]()
If you wanted to maximise your chances, you’d need each get paid into your personal accounts and then schedule transfer it over to your joint. I personally don’t think it’s worth the effort though - plus we don’t know how long this promotion is running for.
Unsure why, you have one account and two bacs payments.
If I had two salary payments in one account it would be very understood only the first paid in would be eligible.
If two salaries are paid into a joint account, how is Monzo to know that they’re for two different people? For all Monzo knows, it could be one person with two jobs.
Because they’re made out to two different people, from 2 different employers on two different dates. Quite easy to work out.
Ultimately it’s a nice bonus feature and I’m not turning my nose up at the opportunity for free money. It’s disappointing that joint accounts, once again, are held at a different standard to personal accounts. But most frustrating is being provided the wrong information. We’ve got our finances set up in the way that works for us, and has done for a number of years. We won’t be changing going forward.
They’re not though, it’s the exact same standard. A single entry for the first BACS payment
Monzo doesn’t know that and would never know that. Any company can pay you by bacs, refunds sometimes come by bacs.
You’d be at an advantage if both bacs payments were made eligible.
Have your salaries paid into your own personal accounts, or at least one of you, and both are in for an equal chance.
I’ve criticised this lottery since the start because ultimately it’s flawed for a number of customers - Monzo wants to ensure that only valid salary payments are in the lottery but there’s no real way to do that without a bunch of manual work and checks so they have had to restrict it down to one type of payment and only one per month. It makes it easier for them to police but locks out many people through no fault of their own.
I get the feeling you’re making the right argument, but using the wrong reasons to back yourself.
The logic should simply be:
If the account type is joint and two BACS payments have been received within the month, then the account gets two entries.
Maybe some additional logic too based upon whether only one or both accounts are paid (premium accounts)
The bigger issue here is really the fact that whether it’s a joint or individual account, it’s the first BACS payment that seems to count. It should be the largest within the month, not the first.
Exactly. It’s possible to understand the flaws or the system limitations and still be disappointed, especially when provided information with sound logic that turns out to be wrong. It’s a nice bonus feature but I won’t be changing my financial setup just to be ‘in with a chance’. 1st world problems hey!
If it was the largest then how would they know that you were going to get another?
It would have to wait until the end of the month to let you know if you won or not in case another larger payment was to come in instead of the way it works now where you press and hold to see if you’ve won when your salary is paid in
That’s a completely fair comment, and ultimately it’s down to the mechanics of the way this has been built.
It didn’t have to be like this, but I’m sure Monzo have good reason to have built it this way. Ultimately they’re the ones who are going to have to deal with the winners when their £10 lottery win gets doubled instead of their salary.
Got paid today. Didn’t win. Boo. Got paid a week early which I absolutely hate as now I need to wait 5.5 weeks for next payday
Just stick the pay in a savings pot until next week? ![]()
Just because you got paid early, that doesn’t mean you have to spend the money early.
Dammit

I got paid
I didn’t win.
I had hope for your for the milisecond I didn’t click it ![]()
We get paid early this month, so technically I’ve had 2 salaries within a month. So I wont be eligible for the January draw ![]()
