I guess that makes sense. With a credit card you are instantly taking Santander’s money and they are waiting for it to clear.
With debit you are waiting for it to clear. The bank hasn’t lost any money in the short term.

I’m not sure I follow the reasoning.
I understand your explanation, I just don’t see why that should mean that the transactions are listed differently to the customer.
I feel they should both show the debit date on the app, and then tapping in shows the cleared/collected date.
Barclays shows transactions on statements as collected date by memory, but most other apps show the date the transaction was made, saving confusion.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t.
I’m saying that might be why they do.
HSBC current accounts show the date of debit card purchase while still pending. Then when it clears it only shows the clear date, which is super annoying.
Yeah just a bit! I don’t know why they (HSBC) don’t seem to capture that in a visible place
I prefer the way Lloyds do it. They record the transaction on the date you paid and then when it’s cleared, they show the date it cleared when you drill into the details.
NatWest do the same as HSBC, when the payment clears, it’s recorded. However you can find the transaction date if you dive into the detail.
It’s one off payment I believe. So after receiving £36 you are free to switch out:) I applied for their credit card…
Anybody else still waiting on their switch bonus?
I know I have until 25th September according to them to assess, but usually pays out about 60th day or close.
I’ve spotted another oddity with the way transactions are presented on the Santander Edge card.
I currently have about £70 worth of transactions from yesterday which are pending, but the total pending amount shown in the app is over £600.
The reason for this is that there is a £530 refund which is pending, but instead of deducting it from the pending amount, they’ve added it.
Another thing it noticed was that when spending abroad the pending transaction (in £) never changed when the transaction completed (even for large transactions). It nearly always does with Monzo in my experience (up or down by a few p)
Same for pay at pump… they add refunded amount
What are we looking at?
Edit: Sorry you added text or I missed it.
Should be free with a Santander card though, or at least that’s what Santander UK tell you.
Only certain accounts I think. It used to be a selling point of 1|2|3. Not sure if 1|2|3 Lite, Edge or Edge Up get it.
EDIT: apparently all adult accounts are eligible:
I’d be inclined to try it and pop a complaint in if the fee is actually charged.
If you do use a/gpay, what PIN do you need to use? I’m assuming that it would ask as it says you tap then enter PIN on that link.
The ATM may not have been able to identify your card as a Santander one if you used an electronic wallet as x-pay use a token instead.
I’m considering getting a 0% interest on purchases for X months card (can’t remember how many months). Does this just mean I am able to pay just the minimum payment for the entire period of the offer, with the balance having to paid off at the end of the period to subsequently avoid the interest? Is there any downside to doing this way in terms of my credit history/report?
That’s how it works, yes. Personally, I’d only use it for maybe a one-off large purchase and I would actually split the cost over the remaining months so that it’s all paid off by the end of the interest-free period.
No real downside for your credit history so long as you don’t miss any payments.
Ive just got a holiday in a few months I wanna take so considering using it for that. Would help to spread the cost as you say. Just gives more flexibility when to pay it off.
