Remove Monzo Plus Page

Some well put points there.

I do disagree slightly with your assessment at the end though:

It’s a very bright, colourful, and flashy segment on an otherwise bland interface, which immediately grabs and distracts my attention, so I wouldn’t personally think of it as low key and unavoidable, because I can’t ignore it. It’s the first thing I see when looking at the screenshot, the second being @Revels weird take on a Game Center icon for his photo. I imagine that would feel worse when you swipe down for card controls too and you can see more the shimmering holographic pattern.

It comes very close to feeling like casino psychological manipulation, and something I’d worry a number of people might end up paying for just to get rid of it, depends if they love the base experience enough. It’s something I feel like I could wind up doing if Monzo was something I couldn’t live without, because it would frustrate me that much.

That’s why I personally prefer the other method they’re testing, where they just show the plus tab to everyone. That to me, is more low key, and fits better with the interface, because it’s also where the features themselves reside. And it’s out of the way because it blends in with the other tabs, so doesn’t draw too much attention. I hope that’s the approach they end up going with.

I was full Monzo and this, along with other small niggles that eventually begin to grind, drove my away from them. Yes, the Barclays app shows adverts too but those are either at the very bottom of each page where I have to consciously scroll to, or they are fairly relevant to me/can be dismissed with a tap

What were the other small niggles, and more importantly, what did you switch to and why that instead of Monzo?

Not having a pop, but my memory of this is very different. I remember getting one lonely feed item when they were exploring the marketplace concept saying something like “switch your energy to Bulb and get £25”, when you clicked on it there was a very polite and transparent message saying if you switch you’ll get a switching bonus and Monzo will get a commission. I dismissed it and that was the sum total of Monzo’s advertising to me in about 3 years.

What other advertising was there that you were bombarded with? Maybe I have some sort of Do Not Disturb marker on my account, as they never bother me with anything or offer me any credit! :unamused:

Perhaps you have this toggle for news and updates off? Or were just in the wrong A/B test?

I too remember ads of that nature, though not to the exaggerated extent they describe. I think I got maybe 3 or 4, but via different methods, and for 2 different suppliers. I believe they did similar for savings pots at one point too, but I don’t recall getting any of those except for maybe a feed item.

Other adverts that used the same methods promoted an in app feature and were done just once, which I didn’t personally mind.

Limiting just to the method of in feed adverts though, I don’t recall how many of those I’ve received and for what products or services, they don’t bother me too much and I just dismiss them, but it’s probably in the double digits.

This circles back somewhat to my feelings on A/B testing though, and why I don’t like it. You and they have vastly different memories of the same thing, and it’s entirely possible that both recollections are accurate, but we have no idea and likely never will.

I have the same problem with being invited to upgrade, which I would like to do, but Monzo don’t allow me to because I live in the Isle of Man. Seeing the “Upgrade Account” button every time I log on is annoying!

That’s interesting nothing in the current Plus offering would seem to exclude non-UK residents. My guess is it may have something to do with additional features they may add.

I’m paying 3 pounds per month for something that doesn’t apparently exist but can’t find any way to cancel.
Dire and rather off-putting. I was a big fan once.

Contact support to cancel it

So much for ‘smart’. There should be a button that ordinary folk like me can press. Automation clearly hasn’t arrived in Monzoland…

You can cancel in app.

Tap on the ‘Monzo Plus’ icon at the bottom and tap ‘Settings’.

I think they may be on the original Plus… feels like a distant memory

Ahhh in that case… wow :scream:

How have they missed all those emails and app notifications? It was cancelled over a year ago wasn’t it?

“They” actually got no messages. They read about Monzo Plus being wound up in the Press.
But Monzo have been taking 3 p m ever since for what, I ask myself.

The ‘Support’ (sic) is automated and as they didn’t respond after 30 mins I gave up.

Great bank, eh…Revolut gets most of my traffic now, no problems thus far.

So you took up old Monzo Plus, at £3pcm, to get “nothing” in return. Then you continued to pay to receive “nothing”. Then you apparently didn’t get any emails about Plus, nor did you notice anything in the app. Then you finally contact support to cancel and for some reason assume you should get an immediate/semi-immediate response, contrary to how it’s worked forever.

I hope that’s an accurate account?

Can I sell you some magic beans?

Not receiving emails is the part of the issue I believe and sympathise with. I very rarely receive Monzo’s emails, usually only when they sell me something or if it is a legal requirement

I took up old Monzo for the extras. Old Monzo was discontinued. Monzo continued to take 3 pcm for something which apparenttly didn’t exist. No emails. Don’t spend my life on the app, I just make and receive payments. Your summary is grotesquely underinformed - I could use the magic beans to explain this awesomely complex issue to you, perhaps?

tbutz clearly has a direct line to the gods of Monzo

As I understand it, it wasn’t. It just stopped being available for people to take up.

Or did. I don’t recall what the benefits were, but you should know what you signed up for.

So you were aware you were paying £3pcm for something you believed no longer existed, if you accessed the app.

Charming.

I’m just exposing the flaws in your explanation and trying to get to the root of what’s happened. You’ll no doubt get a much better response on the Revolut forums.

This is not quite correct.

Plus V1 subscribers (including the £3 early bird offer) continued to receive the perks they paid for.

I know because I was getting 1.5% interest on my balance until I switched over to new Plus when it launched.

I received several emails inviting me to cancel if I wanted to.
