I emailed and was asked to send a selfie holding my ID so they could verify my identity. I just wanted to double-check that this was legit before I sent anything. Please let me know.
if you are sending it to Monzo, to sign up , or alter details on your account …yep

We would ask for a selfie if you’ve emailed us and have been unable to access your account using the app.
But we would never email you out of the blue asking for a selfie with ID.
