Monzo in App chat

Hi. Is it customary for Monzo chat to ask sending a selfie of me with my business account debit card? They said to hide the numbers apart from the last 5 digits. This seems odd to me.

Yes, it’s ID verification

What were you asking for? I’ve had it when changing limits and theyve been known to ask for PIN reminders or changing details

When you signed up you sent them a copy of your ID, they have that on file and they’re confirming that it’s really you asking. Plus by asking you to show your card minus some numbers they’re confirming that someone hasn’t just found a photo of you on social media.

I don’t buy it. I think my Monzo in App chat gets hacked and quite regularly. I know this is a massively sweeping statement but if anyone has or feels the same then feel free to contact me…

Are you asked this randomly or when you’re wanting something from Monzo?

Hey @NeddyB1983!

This is indeed something we’ll ask you to do in chat to verify you  Either your card (showing only the last 4 digits, never share your full card number, even with us!) or your ID, depending on what you’re needing to do :+1:t2:

thats a very strange request - are you a journalist chasing a story ?

What makes you think that?

If they’re hacking the chat then why ask you to cover the numbers?

Why would a hacker ask you to cover up the numbers? They would ask for the exact opposite.

This is a standard ID verification request by Monzo. They’re making sure that no-one has taken your phone or otherwise compromised your account, and that any changes made as a result of the chat are genuinely done at your request and not J. Random Fraudster

:exploding_head:

Why is this strange? Is Monzo void of any hacking or cyber crime? I believe that “my” Monzo in app chat Has been regularly hacked or intercepted by certain hackers this past 6-8 months. I’be printed the chat trail off and would like a physical Monzo employee to sit down with me and assure me that they are not.

If you give no examples and you’re not answering anyones questions then they’re naturally going to be suspicious.

Sadly you’re not going to get a digital bank to be able to provide someone to sit with you and go through it all. You’re going to need to provide more detail here or in app chat and get reassurance that way.

I would assume rightly or wrongly that anybody with a hacked in app chat would be coming onto the forum to report it , you are the first I have heard of that thinks they get ‘regularly hacked’ in app chat. it just seems strange that you then are asking others to contact you privately :man_shrugging:

are you a journalist ?

Like undercover police officers, are journalists not allowed to lie when asked this?

I’m reminded of my favourite event in the Masked Singer, when the judges were allowed to ask each (remaining) contestant a question, and Ken Jeong asked Monster: “Are you Cee-Lo Green?” :male_detective:t2:

Hi Neddy, I’m sure this isn’t the case. If you’d like us to investigate further, just drop us a message at help@monzo.com and we’ll take a look.

Come on then. What makes you think that statement is correct? What evidence do you have?

Email is the least secure communication method on the internet. If they’ve hacked his Monzo app, there’s no way email will be secure!

If someone has hacked your monzo account, they would be emptying it not sending random messages on chat.
