I believe my current max payment is set at £1000 - would this mean I request the hotel take 2 payments to pay the €1700 bill?

Yes that would be the case, however you could ask in-app support to raise your limits. Once you verify your identity there are 2 tiers of limits, Standard Identity Verification and Enhanced Identity Verification (max payment is £2000). I had the issue once and asked in-app support about it, and a few days later I noticed it switched to the Enhanced tier. Could be a coincidence but it’s worth asking anyway.
