Payment made twice by Monzo

I’m not an expert but I would guess even under those circumstances there’s no way for Monzo to get the money back. It would have to be a case of you contacting them and them transferring back the extra payment they received.

This is because it’s a Bank Transfer, which unfortunately means my previous answer doesn’t help you because it’s only true for card transactions.

It looks like you might have accidentally sent the payment twice.

Are the time stamps for the two payments the same?

Speaking to the business owner to tell them my Bank has made a mistake is surely not the way this should be handled.

It is exactly how it should be handled. It’s Sunday and we’re going round in circles trying to help you :man_facepalming:

If is definitely a Monzo error, then Monzo should definitely look into it in terms of making sure the bug is fixed, but I still think for a bank transfer they won’t be able to directly request it back themselves.

I think I would be aware if I had make a payment twice. Why would I do that. There are plenty of opportunities to abort making a second transaction.

Do you have screenshots of the two different details at the bottom? With another shot of the duplicates in the feed (with amounts omitted if you prefer).

OK, so as its a Sunday, I need to do Monzos job and dispute a payment with the Business Monza accidently paid twice.

I do understand you are trying to help but basically saying its not Monzos issue is not helping. Or maybe it is and this is just how they work?

Equally, why would Monzo do it?

Have you totally ruled out the possibility that you made a mistake and therefore it is Monzo fault?

No, it’s Sunday and we’re all here doing a merry dance, cause you won’t try to help yourself and speak to the business owner who you have sent money to twice :joy:

The two different details at the bottom are time stamped 1 minute apart.

I thought maybe you could have sent the payment the first time, but thought it hadn’t gone through because the feed item took a long time to appear (or something). So you resent the payment.

I don’t think it was an unreasonable suggestion based on what I’ve read.

So you made a mistake

SPEAK TO THE BUSINESS OWNER!!!

" who you have sent money to twice"

who MONZO have sent money to twice.

As it is a bank transfer regardless of bank it is the sender and recipient issue, even if you entered the details incorrect as another Monzo user did which they thought was own account number and managed to get it back luckily.

I understand it may have been a bug but from my understanding it is still sender receiver to sort between each other.

Happy sunday all, where’s @anon72173902 when you need him. This is enough for today. Pass me a cider.

I don’t think there’s any point repeating the who is to blame posts

As it’s a bank transfer there is no way they can claim it back on your behalf. The business owner will see the double transaction and I’m sure will be more than happy to refund one

Its more concerning that this can happen. If its my responsibility to chase the money back, then so be it. I just find it very concerning that this can happen.

Thank you all for your comments.
