Oh...Boris

There’s always a war on somewhere. Especially if you’re counting wars we’re not even actively involved in.

If you look at America, this sort of nonsense is straight out of the Republican playbook - pick your position and then say the evidence always supports you.

No doubt if Labour were in office and Starmer were to have partied, the Tory line would be “We can’t have a PM we don’t trust when there’s a war on, kick him out!”

For people asking for a resignation… who would they prefer to replace him? I don’t think there is a good answer to that.

Anyone, and then continue to replace anyone who insists on treating the country with contempt.

I’d prefer constant change over accepting a turd sandwich and saying there’s nothing better on the menu.

So you would prefer a constant state of flux for the country until there is a general election when the Torys MIGHT lose power? Doesn’t sound like a good solution to be honest.

Up until a week ago I’d have said Sunak.

I still think he’d do a better job, but the current drama around him means it won’t be him now.

So if I’m a lorry driver and I keep crashing into other vehicles on the road, I should be allowed to keep my job as long as there’s no immediately available replacement for me?

He broke the law and he lied. He should stop game playing and just go. Otherwise the lesson for future Prime Ministers is that you can break the law and lie, and they might do so in a way that’s even worse - because they can get away with it.

No I didn’t mention doing it until the Torys might lose power, just until we stop getting someone (no matter the party) who treats us with contempt.
I reckon after a few oustings the worst of them will soon realise that it’s not a fruitful career path unless they have the country’s best interests at heart rather than their own.

I’m not saying it’s a perfect solution but it’s not like the current set up is perfect or pain free either.

We cannot have a Prime Minister who broke the law. We just cannot.

I’m not getting drawn into analogies. I’m neither a Boris supporter nor a Tory supporter. I just don’t see anyone else who could take the role (Sunak aside) right now with both the support of the party and the public. It seems like nobody can, or is willing to, mention names. And to clarify I’m not taking about posters on this forum. I mean ANYONE including the media.

Literally anyone. An inanimate object would do a better job.

To be honest neither can I but I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to not ask for Boris’ resignation.

I would say if there were a Conservative leadership election it would be Liz Truss.

There’s something deeply ironic about him winning power off Brexit, and then managing to clingonto power because of his opportunistic support of a war in the far east of Europe.

Indeed. That is what I was clumsily alluding to.

Never mind Starmer, imagine what they would say if it had been Corbyn!

I’m not asking for a resignation (there’s no point, everyone knew he was a liar long before he became PM).

As to who I think should replace him, Kylie Minogue. I imagine she’d do a much better job at uniting the country than anyone in parliament (or the monarchy, for that matter).

This is the problem - it is a serious subject, but nobody can actually give serious answers (cue people doubling down on silly answers).

It is fine to dislike Johnson - I do myself. But only one person has actually been able to give an answer of a possible leadership candidate. Either people have no clue how politics actually works, or they genuinely believe inanimate objects can run a country and make decisions that impact your life. That isn’t real life.

Now than Sunak would not be an option, there are so few options, which has likely been engineered by Johnson of course.

I could see Ben Wallace getting the gig as an almost caretaker PM, then if he’s any good and the MPs/Tory Members like what they say he may win an election.

Or possibly one of the MP’s who have looked out for their constituents (the likes of David Amess RIP)
But most of these seem to have no aspirations of leadership.

Mine is a serious answer (to the question posed). I do think Kylie would do a better job as PM than anyone in parliament.

If you want to restrict it to parliamentarians, the David Lammy, and if it’s further restricted to Tories, I would have said David Amess, but I’m sure there is another anodyne candidate somewhere that doesn’t get any limelight.

It doesn’t really matter what you or I want, that is how a leadership election works. Real world.
