Obtaining a Monzo card

Hey, new to monzo, Queue doesnt seem to be moving. Do we know the waiting times to move up in the queue? Is it worth waiting?

Definitely worth the wait! It’s a fantastic product. I wouldn’t call it a perfect bank account or anything, I have a wishlist. But it’s excellent and I think the best in the UK.

Hi! You’ll likely be able to open an account in January. The typical wait is 1-2 weeks, it’s a little longer currently as Monzo have invited all the prepaid users to the current account before accepting new customers.
Reiterating what Allie said, it’s been a much smoother account for me, mostly from instant spending updates so you can see how much money you have in real time, instead of waiting three days for Mondays coffee to show up.
New Year, new account

New year, new account, was the goal, liked the look of the money managing tools the account offered. Been on the waiting list for a while. Just hasnt moved at all. Will hold a tad longer and see what happens

The queue should be moving now albeit slowly. My brother busy signed up yesterday and said he was at 16,000 in the queue. It used to be much higher than this so I thought it must be moving pretty fast

Ive been at 11,678 for a while :-(

Don’t suppose anyone has an updated figure on the queue or any approximate waiting time?

Is it just a case of joining the queue and then submitting the application once you pass the queueing stage? Or is the entire application made and then you wait an undetermined amount of time?

Lastly I gather there’s no referral/invite benefit at the moment? Was that what the “golden ticket” was previously?

Oh really?! And I thought the season of good will was behind us!

Bit the bullet and joined the queue anyway - was toying up between Monzo and Starling but the CS and UX appreciation won me over.

FWIW, 17189 is what the queue is looking like at the moment…

Thanks Hugh! Most appreciated :grinning:

I am probably misunderstanding the process here, but isn’t what you’ve actually done is bumping everyone who was ahead back?

I’m not sure what the current processing times are, but just wanted to make sure you had seen that the change to ATM fees is now live:

This definitely doesn’t stop you from using the card in the states, just so you can plan how much cash to take with you and how much to withdraw when you are there. Be aware I’ve had a lot of ATMs charge me in the US, so even though Monzo wouldn’t the ATM operator still can, and there’s nothing any card provider can do to stop that.

Exactly. Card acceptance is near 100% in the US and almost every ATM charges fees. There’s no reason a tourist would need to touch a single cent. I go to the US every year and never touch cash, and when I lived in the US I only used cash very, very rarely. This simply is a non-issue for the US. Living in the US, I needed well under $250 (approximate conversion of £200) cash a year. Usually closer to $50. In a year, living there.

OP - maybe one of the nice people here like @HughWells or @RichardR could make your Monzo dreams come true?

I don’t think it bumps them back - there is a certain number of sign ups they can process per day, so that queue is decreasing daily by that number. What Hugh does is bypass the queue completely and thus making them get a card in addition to the normal signups processed every day, which should not be an issue unless the people sending out the cards are overwhelmed.

Hello- I signed up yesterday and am currently 15,920 in the queue. Is there any idea of wait times as wanted to use my card when I go to the states.

Many thanks

I guess it’s the equivalent of a golden ticket. I’d have thought the fair thing to do if a Monzo employee had time to process an extra application would be to process the next one on the list.

I’ve seen a mixture of two types, but haven’t followed closely enough to see how many of each:

  1. Someone caught in a bug that were at the front of the pre-paid queue but didn’t correctly get moved to the CA (one reason I’ve seen mentioned is they got halfway through the PP sign up then stopped).
  2. Super-excited new user who has popped up on here

Hi Debra,

The current wait time is around a week - absolute max 10 days! Hope this works for you, have a great trip :slightly_smiling_face::us:

Thanks for your reply,
I haven’t moved from the 15,920 position in the queue- is that normal?

Nope, it just unlocks that particular user and allows them to go through to the next stage of the process. It doesn’t affect the queue.
