but to answer your question, yes there was the Android app launched on the 29th September & the number of users who signed up each day in the following few days way much higher than average
Arguably had the Android app launched before the iOS app higher user numbers would have been reached earlier than initially limiting use to only one model of phone, the iPhone.
Yes it would have but it looks like they had some extra members of the team working on getting the cards sent out to new Android users, to meet with the much higher than usual demand, otherwise I can’t see how they’d have managed this -
I just theorize if that if each user recruits others by word of mouth had they started with higher figures due to launching android first that pyramid type effect would have pushed our user numbers even higher by now
I had assumed that too, I’m not sure that’s right tbh.
I’d expect to have seen at least one other example of someone activating their card later than a user who has a higher user number than them by now, if that was the case. Also, why would your profile display the activation month if that wasn’t linked to the user number? I’ll double check
There are many good reasons to be assigning the user number upon pre registration.
It would allow for easier tracking of a user through the sign up process.
It also allows for the account creation (identity verification etc) to happen upon the first point of contact, meaning that when the time has come for their account to be activated, there is no long wait process to go through, it can instantly be used, unlike other banks - ahem… Natwest…
Maybe they should be calling it ‘user reference’ instead , or at least show some cool stats such as registration date, activation date, registration number etc.
Growth will probably taper off once current accounts start going out. I doubt new pre pay cards will be issued and existing customers will take months to transfer over to the new accounts.
@anon4562461 according to my (slightly dodgy) forecast, Monzo should get there before June. So they’ll reach 200k users in less than half the time it took to get to 100k
Although it looks like the press about Monzo’s restrictions on their banking license attracted more users than usual & if that continues, it could be sooner…
I’m expecting the opposite - the launch of the current accounts should generate a lot of press & the additional standard functionality (direct debits, faster payments etc.) will hopefully prompt users who’ve been holding off, to sign up. I expect Monzo will struggle to keep up with demand though so the queue for new users may get bigger.
