Just a bit confused wonder if anybody can shed any light. I had an issue with a merchant who I believe was scamming me, so Monzo blocked by card and have sent a replacement.
Since then subscriptions are correctly saying i need to update my payment details. Netflix etc, Spotify however, attempted to take payment today, I received a notification in Monzo to say “payment declined, your card’s been replaced”. Immediately after this, it has taken payment, Spotify confirm they have got the payment too.
So how have they taken it when I have a new card…? Am i missing something with the type of payment Spotify is taking from me?
When your card declines for a subscription, unless you opted out, the card scheme will provide your new card details to keep the subscription active unless you opted out of this
When I activated my last card with Monzo there was a toggle switch to opt out of doing so
Ah thank you. That’s interesting. I found a Monzo block that confirms this too. The concern now is that in the blog it states if you were a victim of fraud, they would turn this feature off (I didn’t get asked it when I activated the card). Since my card was replaced due to a concern around a scammer, yet Spotify took the payment, I’m worried that now it’s somehow turned ON to update merchants.
