To be honest, I am slightly concerned about the eventual launch of HBO Max. Its not coming for another three years and the streaming market will have likely changed by then. Even Netflix is seeing changes in new member rates. Plus the HBO brand will mean next to nothing for most people in the UK. Disney and Apple are household names already. HBO isnt really (in the UK at least, i know they do have channels in places apart from the US).
I also think Comcast really needs think about all the different streaming services its subsidiaries are lauching. Comcast owns Sky, so that brings NOW onto the table, plus Peacock, plus Sky Showtime. Thats at least three different streaming services available in different countries for different subsidiaries of the same company I dont know whether there are legal difficulties or whatever, but you’d think they would want a unified streaming brand across the world. (Although im no expert. Im sure they have some idea of what they are doing)
For most folks on the family plan, they get music for their whole family, and iCloud storage, Apple TV+, and Apple Arcade for their family for an extra fiver.
For a lot of folks who are comfortable replacing Spotify, it can actually save you money and give you extra services and content.
I pay for Premier because I use Fitness+ daily, appreciate the iCloud storage, use Apple Music daily, and enjoy the content of TV+. I’m saving over buying all those things separately, and getting News+ and Arcade (neither of which I really use, though Arcade has some nice gems) as well. And I can share it all with my family.
ETA: small tip if you’re a student. Unless you’re invited to be apart of someone’s else’s family group, you’re better off with Apple Music Student. It’s a fiver and includes TV+ for free. As long as you remain eligible, you can keep that offer for five years I believe. If you want storage and Arcade, buy those separately. It’s always going to be cheaper than any Apple One bundle. It only gets close if you want every service they offer. Then you’d be slightly better off with the Premier bundle.
Not quite sure what you mean by aggregator platform in this context, since Netflix is available via other platforms as well such as Virgin Media and BT.
This is a particularly decent offer for those with/wanting BT Broadband ATM.
A platform that pulls all the content from various streaming services into one coherent interface. Sky does this, as does the Apple TV app and recently Plex. Virgin and BT are essentially just bundling a netflix subscription in with their service like a lot of the phone companies do. There’s no deeper integration into their respective platforms as far as I know.
What Sky are starting to do differently is bundle that content inclusive of your sky bill. They’ve done this with Netflix for quite some time, and more recently they’ve been the exclusive home of the new US streaming services that have expanded globally (Peacock, Paramount Plus) which come as standard with your sky subscription. I wouldn’t be surprised if our version of HBO Max winds up just replacing Sky Atlantic and remaining part of the Sky bundle too.
They are already planning for a UK HBO Max launch and I can’t see it being too different to what they have done in other countries https://mobile.twitter.com/scottygb/status/1512106434493882368 (linking this tweet as the article is behind a paywall and this gives a bit of the Sky/HBO relationship when HBO Max launches).
So Amazon is rebranding IMDB TV as Amazon Freevee Remember IMDb TV? It’s called ‘Amazon Freevee’ Now - The Verge and seems to be keen to invest more into it. With Disney+ planning to launch an ad-supported tier internationally next year, and many other US streamers already having ad supportered tiers for free or for a lower price, do you think Netflix should make a move in this area?
In terms of the Amazon Freevee name, im not the greatest fan. I dont think IMDB TV worked (what about IMDB suggests a streaming service?) but im sure they could have come up with something a bit better than this.
Most of the time the conversion does link to Netflix. Mine was referring to the fact that a lot of steaming sites either have adverts or will be adding them. Netflix is the exception in that regard.
