Getting that far means nothing. About four years ago I opened a NatWest account and I received a welcome letter and a debit card. A few days later I got two letters, one from the Account Verification Unit, and one from the Account Closure Team. Both letters basically saying that they’d changed their minds and they didn’t want me as a customer. Furthermore, I wasn’t to bother applying to RBS or NatWest ever again, and if, by any chance, I managed to open any new accounts, they’d simply close those too.
Seems to not be a common occurrence tho, why go though the process of opening an account just for them to close it?
When I applied I had to upload ID etc and was given an account number and sort code there and then on the application, next day got an email to say account was open
Eek.
NatWest has always been slow, but I’ve never had an issue until this last year.
Think any and every bank has been easier than this, even hsbc.
I won’t be disheartened, just can’t remember past processes clearly so was unsure if it had changed now.
Had you rinsed the switch offers or something? Why would they have such an extreme position as that
Did you have to upload ID etc, once I did that and it was verified I got to a page where I was given account number sort code etc so I could then register for online banking. All in all took me 2/3 days from application to being open. Maybe I just got lucky with speed
I’ve been through the process before even to this stage and had declines, or received card and then been told it’s closed. It’s quite typical of NatWest, but it’s just the wording of the above email I wasn’t sure of whether had changed.
I received the exact same email so I guess you’ll have to sit tight and wait I was looking to move back to a legacy bank from mozno but you had suggested starling and I do own a starling account so I’m currently in the process of using them for a few months to see how I get on, so far, so much better than I remember and most likely going to be my main bank
I probably would consider first direct IF there was notifications but starling currently ticks all the boxes
They didn’t give a reason, they never do, but twice before I’d opened an RBS account just for switching elsewhere for a bribe/bonus. The third time I opened one, and tried to switch it to NatWest, is when they closed all my accounts. I can only presume that they’d cottoned on that I was only interested in the switching bonus, and wasn’t a serious customer, so they told me to get knotted, effectively.
Quite a few of the high street banks can be like this. I’ve had it with Lloyds and once years ago with HSBC.
The difference with NatWest seems to be that they are an elephant.
Once banned, never forgotten
Seems the case as I have the rejection email just land
The strange thing is how Lloyds and NatWest do it. You get the “welcome to your account” with deet’s and then they write to you a few days later.
A year ago or so, when I first re-applied for a HSBC account, just before I moved and therefore moved from them as a mortgage provider, I applied and got a “we’ll be in touch” followed by a nice letter in the post saying no.
Madness.
I’ve used the appeal process.
I may have an old savings account causing havoc, which was the same I feel with Barclays who have not allowed me an account since 2012.
Found I had a saver account active from 2012 but only realised this in around 2018 linked to a way back when address. It was closed in 2018 but think this still plays part in the rejection.
I’ve tried to resolve with Barclays many times but it’s the same decline, just cba to go to a branch to sort it all out. Even their complaints team said I wouldn’t have any issues opening an account, might follow up again.
With NatWest though, I’m fairly sure I closed everything with them, and I remember finding an account from Nov 2020 I think it was on my report which I wasn’t familiar with.
I don’t mind a rejection on fair grounds, but if it’s something I can fix internally which I believe it might be, I want it fixed
FWIW I had this:
That was 27 days ago. My NatWest account still works completely fine.
Seems their appeals team just send a copy and paste. They’ve not responded to mine yet.
Another notification of interest rate rises from NatWest but disappointingly no move again on their digital regular saver. Still at 6%
Got my £200 for switching today wasn’t expecting it yet as only completed switch last friday 14th july and have only paid £200 in so far as its says you have to pay in £1250 etc but got my money today also birthday today as well so nice little bonus for my birthday thankyou natwest
Does anyone know what the Natwest Reward Black Credit Card looks like?
Search engines do, unsurprisingly, but I don’t know how out of date they are.
Obviously wouldn’t be asking in here if it was on Google
Except that it is “on Google”
