Monzo seem to use Avenir Next for their bold/header text, although it’s a paid font, Google fonts has an incredibly similar one called Prompt: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Prompt
The problem with myfonts is they’re all paid, which is the issue with Monzo’s fonts they use. As it’s a side project, I doubt @rknightuk wants to pay out for any, although i could be wrong, I spent a fortune on a site I setup for the The Division 2(Game) when it launched
I’ve managed to find one on Google Fonts which is a pretty close match (good enough for these purposes) and managed to fix is the issue where the font wouldn’t be included with the download images. Need to do the work to customise it and such but it’s coming.
Okay adding text is live (lets called it a beta for now). The text is lower than might seem the best place, but it works a lot better when using it in the app (which makes me think the plus background one doesn’t look that good? I haven’t used it)
1 issue with where you have put the text is if you do have a savings pot, the savings provider will overwrite the text will it not? I haven’t tested but looking at my app and looking at the site thats how it looks?
I hadn’t considered the savings and lock pots issue (I don’t have either right now). I’ve made the text option collapsed by default for now. I think the next step will be to do two things:
Text position - top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right
Text size options
I need to do some rewriting before I can do that, adding new features has become a nightmare. I’m not gunna have time to work on this until next week now so I hope everyone has a nice week and I’ll post when I’ve got some updates on this
I really like following this project from a nerdy perspective to see how it is developing and you’re solving issues. Keep up the good work
Given that it is very popular on here and you even got a shoutout from Monzo on their socials, do you have any stats that you could share? How many people are using it, number of images generated, how many people generate on average and so on…
Twitter says my original tweet got 89k impressions and 10k engagements. Not sure exactly what those numbers mean, but still interesting.
I prefer not to have to put cookie warnings on stuff so I only have some very rudimentary analytics on the site (something I hacked together myself) so I only know when someone visits/loads the page but it’s not broken down by unique visitors or anything like that. I added the tracking some time on the 22nd, a day after I launched it and it shows 2748 views since then.
I don’t track images generated or downloaded so I can only guess whats popular based on screenshots people post. But I did base the gallery/popular images on what I’d seen a lot of. By far the most common is the PS5 one.
Fathom was exactly what I was looking for so I’ve added it to the site and added an event to track downloads (no user data, just “someone downloaded an image”). I’ve also made the stats page public and added a link at the bottom for anyone interested in that kind of thing: https://app.usefathom.com/share/hhytrxsk/potimages.rknight.me
Afternoon everyone, I’m back after a nice break (except I fractured my ribs falling down a hill 🤦️). I’ve made a few updates:
Switch between icon styles easily with new buttons below the preview
Hide or show the icon if you want to download just the background
Icon search now includes the font-awesome key (for example you can search for cc- and you’ll see all credit card brands)
Icons now show the name underneath, makes it easier to remember ones you like
Lots of changes behind the scenes working towards making it easier to add new features
Having analytics has been really fun too, it hit 2k images downloaded some time in the past day which is way more than I ever expected so I’m glad people are enjoying it.
I will get to the text options soon, but I wanted to get these other features in first.
ooh that sounds painful. Thanks for the tool it’s fabulous! If you’re considering any further work on it, I’m finding the interest pot overlay (the leaf symbol) clashes quite a lot with the images, so it would be great to be able to move the image off centre.
