Monzo Plus – you asked us to make it simpler, so we’ve created bundles

Reduced upgrade to supporter. Ie you will continue to pay £3 until the end of your term. If you’re on £6 then the price will drop to £4.95

Loot box mentality. Maybe you’ll get a good card maybe you won’t.

Maybe you’ll get a Metal card

Reduced in nominal terms. In real terms, without interest, I’m worse off.

That’s an interesting point, but, Monzo never been under so much pressure to turn a profit before.

From watching this event (especially the travel report bit - when they wanted to make it a plus feature [as they didn’t know it was already implemented lol]) I got an impression that any new feature (especially highly requested feature - like cheque imaging or post office deposits) from now on will be a plus feature, ANYTHING, to get the bundles seem more appealing. I do hope I am wrong about this, but the way they were giving the answers the guys looked desperate.

It’s getting too negative in here for me now.

I’m out.

Collect three shoddy cards for a chance to get a slightly better one, or, add a bundle and increase your metal card success rate

The 15th May Blog post stated that Monzo “wanted to share our long-term vision for Monzo Plus” – the same blog post stated “It’ll be customisable. We don’t think it’s fair to pay for a huge bundle of features, when you only really need one or two of them. So whether you’re a proud homeowner or an avid traveller, you’ll be able to customise Monzo Plus however you like”.

The above has literally been scrapped in its entirety.

Currently, I’m paying £7/month – £3 for the base Monzo Plus (which includes the custom Monzo.me username AND the “exclusive discounts and offers”) and £4 for the Travel Insurance – total cost is £84/year.

Under the new regime it would cost me £83.70/6 months OR £167.40/year, that’s an additional £83.40/year MORE than I’m currently paying.

The Live Event mentioned a handful of times that they received negative feedback regarding the customisation flow and it caused confusion, that the customer didn’t understand what they were getting, I’m going to assume that because for so many folks the customisation was so simple and intuitive that they didn’t need to give feedback, thus the negative outweighed the positive in this instance – to interact with

Monzo Plus it entailed a cumbersome process of going into Settings and going to X and Y, maybe if it lived in its own tab things would of been different?

Where’s the ‘thanks’ to the early-bird folks who believed in Monzo Plus? There isn’t any – there’s no mention of keeping the custom Monzo.me link if you decide to cancel, there’s been no Monzo Swag being sent out as originally stated, hell… on the Live Q+A the question of Swag for early-birds was mentioned but Monzo did the classic politician approach of skirting the question and even mentioned the new bundle to get Swag – is it too difficult to admit they didn’t handle Plus correctly and give something back to the early adopters? Send some Swag out, confirm the custom link will stay even if cancelled? Maybe a free upgrade to the Metal Card as way of an apology instead of entering draws for them? There’s nothing and that is the most disappointing end to all this, it feels as if the Community really has been ignored on this and responses are being cherry-picked.

Yep 100% agree.

I asked a question as to why interest was removed. Their response was people was not using it. I disagree with that comment as it had only been available for a month before they canned it.

Also it might come back

And, more significantly, they have to show their (many) investors just how they’re going to make money for them.

And that’s a real minus.

What really got to me about that was their justification. “When we introduced interest, we didn’t see the number of sign ups increase”, right… you mean right around the time you doubled the price of your product? I’m not sure what passes for analytics at Monzo.

I’ve also not seen Monzo Plus advertised outside of the forum. As Monzo like to remind us, we are a very small subset of users.

Really disappointed in the direction they have taken Plus

I think this probably sums up the situation if you have 5 minutes

TLDR - businesses can’t survive only catering to enthusiasts and need to become main stream.

Based on the event, this now appears to be a company who are under huge pressure to turn a profit from investors. There appears to be no direction or strategy, they are just throwing things and seeing what sticks. An unprofitable bank with no strategy is dangerous.

Originally I thought the project lead on this was just an awful lead. But now I feel sorry for him. He is clearly under huge pressure to deliver something that is not what they wanted to build AND ensure it is profitable.

I completely agree with the TLDR. However it feels like they didn’t get the ‘legacy’ Plus a chance.

  • I’ve not seen it advertised anywhere
  • a lot of my colleagues had never heard of Plus (I’ve signup 105 users; haven’t asked each one) and they wouldn’t be enthusiasts. Majority are non forum users etc.

Ahhwwww  One of my favourite YouTuber’s

If you keep saying it, surely someone will listen.

Looking at what people have been saying over social media and the lack of people tuning in, seems to be a complete and utter shambles.

Given the state of this and what’s happened I am surprised the CEO @anon91821566 hasn’t said anything regarding this but instead stayed very quiet.

Also looking at what’s been shared it does seem to warrant that we have actually been mis sold this product and have grounds to take it for FOS.

It’s a real shame that this has happened, and a lot of questions seemed to have been brushed under the carpet.

I really hope that something happens in next 24-48 hours to reassure existing customers cause as I have said in the last month this has been a complete mess and a waste of £6 a month so far

Finally got to the end of this thread after 4 days… Wow. Only sentiment on here i can’t get behind is those demanding that their fee is refunded. Monzo may have had to change their tact but they were clear not to sign up unless you saw value in the core offering as it was offered. In addition interest has been paid for 6 weeks. Offering to cancel the subscription is the right thing to do but I don’t see any reason for refunds.

To reiterate what others have said personally I liked the modular approach significantly more than the bundles as I don’t wish to pay for items that I won’t use;the same reason I’ve never had a paid bundled account with a legacy bank. What I would have been willing to do I pay a slight premium (compared with purchasing them seperatley) on purchasing the things I would use making managing the products easier.

The interest was a real plus as well as it would mean that my working money for the month was earning something while waiting to go out on DD or be spent.

Plus was shaping up nicely to remove some of the complexity of managing my life, which was the real benefit of it.

Now my intention is to keep the early bird until the bundle conversion email comes and then likely cancel.

Judging by the official product page at the time of launch, this is not the case.

No they weren’t, I was an early adopter and it was pretty implied that while not all features were available on signup they were coming very soon.

Never heard a peep off Monzo in the four months that I paid for plus about what was happening next. Not a thing.
