Monzo now lets you get paid a day early, for free

Atleast the have apologised and said its a bug… Fair play

All sounds a bit shoddy if you ask me. Wouldn’t have been particularly happy if it had affected me.

Monzo ruined my weekend 🤦

Come on people get a grip, they’ve always said it’s a day early as that’s when they can actually see the money coming through correctly with limited chance that it could be reversed, also it’s banking days only, last time I checked Saturday isn’t a banking day of the week

Yes, but nobody would have thought of spending the money before they had it, had the bug not appeared

You can’t assume the same level of financial competence from people, and anything misleading from a financial institution isn’t great at the end of the day

How do you spend money you don’t have in the 1st place, it’s not like it’s landed in the account and then been suddenly taken away

People do it all the time. They make commitments, borrow from people they know on a very short term basis. Whether it’s a formal finance they think they’ll be approved for, or this. It’s commonplace and I experience it all the time in my line of work. Encouraging people not to do it, is just part of the day job.

People shouldn’t do it, but they do. Any mistakes from financial business that incentivise it - in this case only slightly - shouldn’t be skimmed over. Why can’t more people just say, hey its not great but let’s move on, rather than comment on other people’s financial competence…

Then sorry but more fool those people if they did, a mistake was made and just maybe it will teach a few to actually wait in future until that money actually hits the account

Haha, such disclaimers may well be known by the sort of people who grace this forum but they certainly won’t be by those who have a history of poor financial judgement (some of a profile I know to have been customers of Monzo) and this sort of thing will only hinder rather than help. To say otherwise is just a value judgement I am afraid.

Honestly, the amount of contracts I have gone through where I sent them one minute early and they are signed before I can even speak to an individual. Do not underestimate the disparity of financial education that is out there.

I agree and more often than not I see things from that side of the argument

I just found some of the above tone and sentiment to be on the border of piousness

On the grounds that judging the tone of others is something we’re expressly asked not to do here, it really is time to move on please.

I think the only way people can be upset is they are using something new & maybe naively thought it was correct.

A lot of regular users may understand about BACS cycle. I suspect lots of the more negative/ aggressive posts don’t understand this.

The paid early always mentioned they could claim it back so I only used it once to test. In reality the likelihood of it being recalled are nearly impossible.

That’s why I get both sides but it’s the kind of post I’d expect on 1st April.

So just to confirm my understanding on this, if getting paid this friday 17th.
Should be seeing incoming payments 2 days early… (after 9am?) on 15th
Should then be able to claim it early after 4pm on 16th.

My understanding of this right? more so of the new seeing it a day earlier now?

sorry but that’s a really bad description, please don’t call it a short term loan lol

Description is right though  You should not be scheduled a payment on a bank holiday Monday, depending on your company and how they work, the payment could be scheduled for the Tuesday and you would be able to claim the money at 4pm the working day before which is the Friday

But that’s essentially what it is - Monzo “loan” you the money on the presumption that the payment will go through ok, unlikely as it is there is every change the payment may not be made (and if you’ve spent it, well then it’s a loan that needs repaying, right?)

I’m not going to comment on what people should/not do but I’ve never liked this feature, in my opinion it drives dependancies on it existing - for those who are living month to month.

Well if this is the case i dont think the 2 days early is working for me for some reason.

Would be very slim chance theres something wrong on companies side as nothing has changed for over a year and ive been seeing it pop up 1 day early on a monthly basis and claiming it early

This is why they wait until after 4pm as that is the cut off point for the payment to be cancelled.

So am I correct in saying that the pay early feed will show up 2 days earlier, compared to 1 day early which was before

Thats what i was also trying to figure out and up until today i would have said yes that should be the case.

But seems my salary which is due to be paid on the 17th isnt showing up yet :man_shrugging:

And i have no reason to believe my salary isnt being paid on friday.
