£2/day sounds like a lot, but for a week’s holiday abroad paying £14 for using your phone the entire time isn’t bad. I get 5 days of each EU trip free with Honest, but then it goes to £2/day after and I find that to be pretty reasonable.

being able to pick up calls while abroad can be helpful. Cost me £1/minute on 1p mobile.

I have picked up calls on O2, Three, EE, Giffgaff, Virgin mobile at no extra cost. May be you meant calling from abroad?

My fault for not being specific but I was outside of the standard roaming zones. I was in Japan where it costs £1/minute to make or receive a call. Most of the time it’s avoidable but it was one of those verification calls so I more or less had to take it

anyway, I know it’s a little off topic but it’s part of why I find the 60 international minutes with Monzo Mobile one of the more appealing features for travelling, for the occasional call you might have to take. It’s worse for O2 depending on your setup so a lot of this really depends where you are and what network you’re with (also for Japan, costing £3/minute to receive a call abroad!):

I have had a quick search and can’t find anyone else with this issue but thought I’d ask here to see if it really is just me.

Has anyone else been experiencing this issue:

Every single phone call I get comes up as an ‘Unknown Number’ (‘Likely spam’) - even when the caller hasn’t 141’d / hidden their number and even when the person calling me is already in my contact list!

It’s infuriating as my transferred number is pretty old and I get a lot of calls which ARE spam and I’m now unable to discern the difference between a spam caller and my partner ringing me, for example - I have to answer everything now.

This has been a problem since day one of accepting the invite, to Monzo’s credit they’re responsive and trying to resolve the issue with whoever their provider is behind the scenes.. and I only reported the issue on the 28th of last month so I wouldn’t have expected a resolution is there’s some wider issue, but seems like its just me experiencing this.

Combined with the very poor speed I’m getting (sat in the centre of Manchester right now with only 4g / no 5g and everything is SO slow to load regardless of what it is, even an Instagram reel is ‘hanging’ as it loads in), I’m struggling to find a reason to not exercise my cooling off period, get a refund, and move back to EE; the meagre price-drop per year doesn’t outweigh poor speed and an inability to deliver basic telecoms functionality.

Keen to hear others thoughts and experinces!

Check Talkhome, 1p mobile or Lyca for EE access. Much cheaper alternatives. Mozillion is also great value.

Thanks for the info, looks like Lyca only had 4G access (rather than 5G) in the Uk at least reading the fine print on their site; they’re working on adding 5G?

Mozillion looks interesting, do they use EE’s network? There should be a quick way to work out who’s using what network / coverage!

I have a Lyca sim and 5G works perfect.

All those mentioned use EE.

It’s not a lot, but it’s also free on tons of other providers. Seems like a no brainer to go somewhere it’s free.

That depends. Those other providers fall short in some instances. Lebara speed restrictions, Talkhome speed restrictions, Talkmobile 5GB roaming.

When I go away November I’ll just pay the voxi fee I think for £8 days. I’d spend £10 or so on another sim so why bother playing about.

Fair, but O2 customer service is diabolical, price rises £2.50 a year for the same poor service, I don’t go abroad often.

Sky is ~£1.50 price rise max, data rollover so benefit from a lower price plan if you don’t use much. Kinda pays for itself over time.

Sky £11.50/m £2/day roaming

I’ve been getting this but on my Tesco Mobile service. Most mobile numbers not in my contacts “likely spam” I too never know when to answer. Might be an iPhone tweak rather than network.

There are spam settings in your Phone app.
