Merging payees is great but I still want to be able to add someone as a payee before i pay them
Merge Process works well
To climb on the back of other comments other Payee management is required:
- Create a Payee
- Edit Payee name
Not sure how I managed to miss this…
I’ll try not to sound overly dramatic, because we are talking about a banking app after all…
But it’s becoming increasingly clear that Monzo have very little desire to develop basic/obvious banking features, and instead focus on rather niche money making ideas.
Note - No problem with those niche money making ideas, but I’d like to see something useful come to the app I use for my banking…
I love the idea of Monzo time (from an employee POV), but when these ideas become actual features in the app, especially features that people have been asking for, for years! It’s so pitiful to use the excuse that it was developed by a few people in their own time…
I’d kind of understand if it was something frivolous that was a fun addition… But merging payees… really?
I can’t think off the top of my head, but there have been some pretty big releases that have stemmed from Monzo time recently, and the question is, what exactly are Monzo doing, if the new features are all coming from employees having a bit of fun on a Friday!?
The Big List was supposed to be some big (marketing) statement of intent, but since then, the half finished ideas have stayed half finished, and the genuine banking features are being working on by a couple of people in their own time!
It’s being shown up for what it was, when you have a further gulf in OS parity and payee management which has gotten worse!
Appreciate that’s a very inaccurate sweeping statement, but that’s how it looks.
Also, the “feedback and ideas” category is absolutely useless (which I’ve said from day one), and no one has any genuine idea what Monzo are working on, so Monzo can’t be held to account when they push features back in favour of other things…
I never thought I’d be so disappointed to see something like “payee merging” being highlighted as a feature, to be told it was made by a few people in their spare time, and “don’t hold your breath” for it on iOS.
It’s just poor all around.
Rant over.
Whilst the language used is strong i have to agree with your sentiment.
Personally cant look at much this year thats been released and say its a great feature for me thats improved my everyday banking
Monzo plus
Business Accounts
Pay by link
My monzo
Energy Switching
Locked Pots removal
I liked locked pots before it was removed never to be looked at again and can see potential in the new home layout and credit cards but the rest have just been not for me unfortunately
I’ve actually found this an incredibly useful feature for everyday banking.
Really? I have never used it. Never.
What sort of feature were you looking for?
I really only have 1 payee with more than 1 account. Me! Transferring money to other accounts.
-
Custom categories
Would truly allow me to budget in monzo -
Committed Spending Pot
Again would mean i can segregate my disposable income -
Better Payee Management
- Merge existing contacts (ios)
- Add profile photos
- Link outgoing payments to incoming (if i get a transfer from an account i want the name to appear the same in the feed as the payee nam i have it saved as if that makes sense?)
Just a few off the top of my head… some have said to been in the works but not prioritised high enough i personally feel
All good suggestions, but they are rather aspirational everyday banking rather than good old everyday banking
I survived most of my life without even nice names for companies on my account
I’ve been saying this for a while now. Can’t be bothered to even comment on this so will just say that I agree with everything you wrote.
May as well stick my hand up in the crowd too… I agree totally with @nickh
I get Monzo need to make money… but time is being spent on those projects and actual innovation seems to have stopped feature wise…
You as a bank really need a spring clean and polish some of the “features” that were added as MVP and left… such as the above mentioned…
I can’t even edit the name of a payee on iOS, let alone anything else…
There was a lot of focus on iOS / Android parity a while ago and its slowly over time drifting apart again…
I get also that the app is going through a change with the 2.0 account layout but again things like Summery have been just left to collect dust… I used to open my Monzo app every day, several times a day but recently with the lack of features that will help me with money, as well as old MVP features left to die, it’s turning into just “one of those bank apps”
Yeah… anyway… I’m off to drink Gin
What are the missing basic features you are thinking of?
Merged payees for one - Or just general payee management - Heaven forbid I’d like to rename a payee…
My banking needs seem to pale in comparison to most, which is why the Monzo Joint account is my main account for now.
I’m just a little annoyed that so much was promised around the big list, and so few of the ticked off features are actually fully finished.
The payees screen was slightly overhauled, and that’s considered “job done” in Monzos eyes… No other functionality was added, and any new functionality comes from a couple of people doing it in their spare time?
What about foreign transfers? It’s still a very very basic way of doing it, and you can’t even add the amount you want to send in the foreign currency.
Lets not even talk about the stability of the app, or the numerous bugs that go unfixed…
For me, Monzo stopped being the start up that I’d give a huge amount of slack to a while ago - If they can’t make it work now, I worry for their future direction.
Forward Monzo
Very, very odd decision. Agree, if it takes a little while because it’s out on one first, fine, but to not even plan to release on iOS unless significant uptake in Android is very odd. I would use this on iOS now.
Agree here, especially when features such as the Cheque Imaging seem to have been shelved, by working off a poor statistic of ‘amount of Monzo users who deposit cheques’… well with no branches and no way to do it through the app, the number will be artificially low.
If you build it, they will come. I live rurally and so having access to pay in cheques on the app is imperative. This is the reason that HSBC will continue to be my main bank.
But useful features like this for many seem to be overtaken by more gimmicky features at the moment.
You can post your cheques (Monzo Help - Paying in a cheque) a service which, with no branches and no way to do it through the app, means the demand that Monzo will get when people send them cheques to deposit will be exactly how many that are processed? Or am I missing something.
Monzo know exactly how many people want to deposit cheques from the number they will receive in the post. If you aren’t using that service, then where is their inclination to move from that manual task, to an automated software based one??
Unfortunately, you are missing something, as you are basing the assumption on people only having one account with one bank, and so having to adhere to Monzo’s antiquated cheque system.
Monzo know exactly how many people want to deposit cheques from the number they will receive in the post.
Why would I post in a cheque to Monzo, when I can merely take a photo of it on my HSBC app to pay it in? This means I pay all my cheques in to my HSBC account (which is still my main account). This means I don’t count in Monzo’s statistics, and the dozen or so cheques a month I deposit aren’t captured. I wouldn’t go backwards from a user friendly HSBC approach to a slower (and not free) service of posting cheques in, with the risk of them going missing in the post added in.
Unfortunately, I won’t move fully to Monzo until this is developed, as it adds inconvenience compared to my existing HSBC account.
Likely there will be many with this issue, and so Monzo’s statistics are way out. They would be better looking at a national average across all banks of amount of users depositing cheques, rather than those using their somewhat out of date system.
To be clear - I’m a big Monzo fan, but the current cheque procedure is not of this century, when most other things Monzo do are. It seems very un-Monzo also to be so un-user friendly for a task that most people need.
I have an HSBC account that I barely use except for the DD for my mortgage
I could pay cheques in there and still be just as full Monzo as I am now
Could you not just move everything across and just use their cheque tool when you need to? Not sure why that requires you to have your main account there
