Monzo Ireland Waitlist

I mean get excited. Just not too excited!

(Alternatively buy a reduced advent calendar and use that as your Monzo experience count down. Bonus points if you can get a hot coral one).

Just called them again @Peter_G and spoke with a guy, he says no more people onboarded until January. So at least now I can stop checking the app. A shame really but we will see what happens come January

How was the support experience? :eyes:

Sorry for any confusion. It is ongoing, we will be slowly releasing more and more invites. As most of the team are on a well deserved break over Christmas we have paused now until the new year.

We don’t have a fixed schedule of exactly when and how many invites – we are closely monitoring loads of things and will roll out more and more invites as we gain confidence that everything is working as expected.

I’ll make sure we keep you folks updated with our plans.

Do you know what @Peter_G, the support was actually really helpful. We had a nice little chat about Xmas before ending the call. He did say keep an eye on the app once a day to see if it is ready to be onboarded even though he said it’ll be January. That’s the only thing that was confusing :joy:

Long may it last!

(And if we could get Irish levels of support over here that would make my 2026).

You’re far too keen and will no doubt be rather disappointed.

New launches are very limited, look at the UK app vs when USA launched. Ireland will have EU rules and regs in place so it’ll not be matched to the UK just yet (be very surprised if it was remotely close).

Monzo and Revolut aren’t too different, the exception monzo has FSCS in the UK, whereby Revolut is still on route for theirs.

Bill splits, early payday, analytics, shared tabs/pockets, joint accounts.

It’s all the same but with a different skin :joy:

I was going to say the same as Carlo there - I really wouldn’t hold any expectation that this will be a copy and paste of the UK version of the product for reasons already discussed.

Particularly things like early salary - someone on the UK side can probably confirm more but I think the ability of Monzo to offer this is contingent on the technical workings of the BACs network in the UK, I don’t think payments over SEPA work in the same way and so I’d be astonished to see Monzo offer this here.

Revolut offer early payday in the UK too I believe, and I’m sure they would have brought this here already if it was possible.

That said though, what do I know :man_shrugging::joy:

I highly expect in reality we will get a basic current account in the first instance, maybe with trends / analytics and pots, and anything beyond that is probably some considerable way off yet.

@DavidGallagher Some historical context for you:

15/08/2017

21/11/2017

The reason it says ‘Upgrade’ is because we were moving from the prepaid debit card to a current account.

Yes, I’ve been around a long time

Hey @duncansby hope your well.

I can see you’ve been with them a long time. I’m at position 300 so hopefully not that long of a wait :person_facepalming:

This next two weeks is probably the best few to be sure everything runs smooth (Christmas and new year).

Aye. I think they said right after Christmas (early Jan) is when more invites will be sent out

Aye from the new year. Excluding Revolut is there nothing comparable?

What don’t you like about Revolut?

Yeah, I have Revolut…But I’m on the look out for the best saving deposits that include DIRT taken care of & easy access to funds if needs be…So I’m also looking at Moco, Avant & raisin bank

The question will be how much is Monzo willing to give up in profit to compete, this is somewhere Monzo could do well in Ireland and thrive.

I believe the European Central Bank rate at the moment is 2% with heavy hitters like Trade Republic offer the full 2% to their European customers whilst others offer very close. Will Monzo pass on the savings.

Edit: Looking online according to a reddit post from 6 ago Revolut’s standard rate in Ireland at the moment is 1.5%

Does Raisin handle DIRT?

I looked at this some time back, I don’t think tax was withheld. Unless somethings changed since then

According to google no, apparently only banks handle DIRT so the main irish high street banks and I would imagine Revolut and Monzo also would as licensed banks in Ireland

Edit: Revolut do, again after a quick Google :joy:

Nah Revolut just isn’t for me. Monzo do it all right from the look of there cards to the customer service. I’d say monzo is gonna be the next big thing here

I’m trying to make sense of my place in the Monzo Ireland waitlist and wondered if anyone else is in the same boat or has any insights.

I signed up literally the moment the waitlist went live, so I was expecting to be pretty near the front. We’ve now had the announcement that the first people in Ireland are being onboarded, but my queue position hasn’t budged at all. Not a single spot lower.

It’s starting to make me wonder:

· Were any regular Irish users actually onboarded from the public list? Or is the info not updating correctly?
· Could Monzo have given early access to people not on the public list—like business partners, staff, or VIPs before working through the waitlist in order?
· Has anyone who was onboarded actually seen their position move gradually before getting the invite, or did it just suddenly jump?

I’ve asked support about this, but no one could give me a clear answer on why the number isn’t going down, which just adds to the confusion.

Has anyone else noticed this, or have a theory on how the list is actually being processed? Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences.

Cheers
