Shocked by Barclays to be honest
That article is a load of crap:
Monzo, a digital bank, is the second most downloaded banking app in the UK with current downloads, as of August 2024 totalling at 12.2m.
We’ve not had August 2024 yet…
Have we travelled forward a year, and I didn’t notice?

Hmm true. Maybe a typo or just a prediction? Would be nice if Monzo did become the number one bank.

The Monzo adverts I’ve been getting on YouTube are some of the worst I have seen. There seems to be two types.
The first really short and doesn’t tell you why Monzo is worth getting. Seems pointless.
The second are TikTok style vidoes which are so incredibly annoying. Why would two people arguing over 1p make me want to bank with you? This continues for ages with a bunch of annoying situations that Monzo apparently makes better. Genuinely some of the most annoying adverts I’ve seen.
I know they are using targetting adverts considering they are focused on uni students, but it seems like an attempt by a bunch of 30 year olds to try to seem cool, but doesn’t come across well.

Been saying that for years about their social media department. It feels like millennials trying too hard to be Gen Z a lot of the time. Same undertones come across in a lot of their tweets too. It’s a whole lot of cringe and vicarious embarrassment to me.

I don’t think a lot of banks get advertising right. Lest we forget the First Direct Skunk… He was right about one thing, something really did stink. Those adverts…

Nationwide, First Direct, and these Monzo YT adverts really aren’t great. I think the Natwest/RBS one is fine but doesn’t tell you much about why they are actually any good. I also quite liked the Santander ones with Ant and Dec. Were a bit of fun and actually highlighted features of Santander.

Some of the Natwest TV adverts I’ve seen have been really irksome. Again like @N26throwaway said felt like oldies trying to be hip. Also the shouting “WHAT YOU WAITING FOR!!!” over and over again when advertising their business banking (I think) is very very irritating to me. But then Natwest broke their hold over my finances when they closed all the branches around me and I started using Monzo and FD more and more.
In the case of Monzo advertising. I can’t really think of the last time I saw a non-static advert from them. The static adverts I’ve liked. They fit the aesthetic/branding of Monzo and are generally pretty good.
