Monzo in the Media

I’d say it belongs here - after all, the tweet has been viewed 1.1 million times - probably more than headlines in some newspapers.

If I was Monzo reading through the comments, I’d be concerned at how confused about the safety of online banks the average person seems to be. I’d think about using the next marketing campaign focussing on the safety and security of Monzo and the FSCS protection.

Would love to see Lunar enter the UK market. Not necessarily with the acquisition, but who knows?

And N26 again, obvs.

If lunar can pull together £10 billion to buy out Monzo then go for it - I just hope they get my name right on the cheque.

Wouldn’t it be the other way around? Sounds like the CEO is just wanting some PR by making a statement like that.

Top clickbait statement

I don’t think so, he comes across well in the article - he was asked about Monzo. Short summary, he says Lunar are growing well, he says rumours about acquisitions were all pretty unfounded but in this sector everyone is talking to everyone, then ends by saying they have big plans and - clearly tongue in cheek - maybe one day they’ll acquire Monzo.

Someone pissed on her cornflakes didn’t they.

Her attempt to be edgy seems far more juvenile than the “orange” card.

I think there is a little something in this. I’ve been a Monzo user from pretty much the beginning and in that time my financial position has changed as I’ve progressed in work etc and I do feel like perhaps people with high income, no desire to use credit, investments and savings in other platforms with better rates/lower fees are not the target customer. I almost jumped to Starling as they felt more grown up but actually I still really like the Monzo app and despite being financially secure I still believe in “look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves” and the Monzo interface is the best for this. I still use things like cashback for minor gains too so I’m staying for now!

Edit: further thought, as the user base matures maybe there needs to be a different tiered account option which is more attractive to higher wealth customers. Minimum monthly deposit of x and offers that appeal to this group…

The worst part about Monzo now is you can’t get any form of customer service, all just articles for you to figure it out yourself! :rage:

Well it is the telegraph. They specialise in “gammon inducing” content. I normally ignore those articles, and just read the rest of it, since I find it quite well written for the most part.

While people might not agree with it, it does talk to a group of former customers, me included. I left Monzo for a similar reason. The features that were really great and different at the time are now either just the same or nothing really that impressive to tempt me back, yet.

EDIT: What I’m trying to say is Monzo is really great and is still just about different from the main stream. But, that’ll only happen for so long and I think at one point its going to have to think does it want to become a high street bank in terms of multi-app, cash deposits, and actual customer service. Equally, would people who want that move from a brinks and mortar institution, probably not. Change is hard.

Thanks for posting. I think it’s good to see alternative views.

I left monzo months ago and can relate to some of the sentiment in the article.

The bit I don’t get, however, is how sitting in a branch to open a Barclays account is a solution

I kinda get the child like bank statement… not necessarily with the emojis but I do think the app layout is abit all over the place with all the little boxes of info and pots etc. I think if Monzo layed out all their accounts in the list like current, flex and joint account with savings/investments etc it would look tidy and pleasing to the eye. There are too many clicks in boxes and drop down links all over the app and searching for things that could be better presented. Monzo are great and love the features and love it as my main bank but can understand the feeling of a child like feeling of the bank. I mean they did initially aim it towards the teens to start off with and their flashy coral card. Maybe Monzo could look into making the product look abit more grown up and less clicky with boxes all over the app

I mean they could make it look a certain way to placate a Telegraph hack, or they could continue with a successful model built on user insights and research about what makes the app work

I’ve had great service this past week. Pick of the bunch I guess.

Strange article. Nothing she said sounded like it was worth getting annoyed about, and yet she mentions that she enjoyed not having to use a card reader etc. I think there’s a bit of truth to Monzo needing to grow up a little as its user get older, but I think they are doing that pretty well - encouraging people into investments. She mentions managing a mortgage, yet Monzo are the only app I’m aware of where you can view your mortgage and term etc.

Reading the top liked comments, it was clearly aimed at a certain demographic:
