Monzo in Croatia 🇭🇷 [Discussion]

I’m in Split and anywhere that takes card (which is most places) takes Monzo

For ATMs, OTP Banka don’t seem to charge a fee for using them, used them a few times. It was the only one at Split Airport that doesn’t (others were charging 29-34 kn to use)

Also, the airport ATMs make you take out multiples of 200kn, whereas all in Split let you take out multiples of 100kn (and tend to give out fewer 200kn notes, which are a pain to get rid of)

Just booked a stay in Split for Aug '22.
Thanks for the tips about atms etc

Has anyone been this year? Any changes with which ATMs do and don’t charge since they switched to the Euro?

I have suddenly found myself on a trip for a few days later this month. Any tips about local customs or traditions? I am learning a few basic phrases, but it is a country I know so little about.

Recently came back from Split Croatia and though almost all ATMs in Split did accept Monzo card but all charged additional €4-5 and I tried at least 3-4 banks in the town. And this was the case for other cards as well like Wise or even Metro

I’m in Croatia, traveling between Zadar and Sibinek.

Most ATM charge a fixed fee of around €4 per withdrawal. In the resort locations such as Vodice there are many cash only businesses, I’ve needed to withdraw over €800 on top of card spending over the last 8 days.

I’m due to go in a couple of weeks (Dubrovnik, Sipan, Cavtat & a few days in Bosnia - Mostar).

Would you advise getting Euros in the UK, rather than taking out of ATMs?

€4 - €5 charge for each withdrawal scares me! I imagine that can soon mount up. Then again, I don’t fancy travelling with £1000 on me, as I’ll be mostly staying in AirBnB properties and travelling by public transport.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance.

I would use the ATMs personally. The fees are fixed so take out as much as you dare each time. I don’t like carrying loads of cash so I’ve been taking out around €300 each time…

To me, is loads of cash

There are more ATMs per square mile in this country than I’ve ever seen in my life. You’ll never be far away from one. The Euronet ones are the cheapest I have used at €3.95 per transaction. Just try and use your card everywhere you possibly can and have cash with you too just in case. In split you’ll be able to card almost everything. In smaller places like family restaurants, markets, butcher, fishmongers etc cash is king.

This. It was insane! Lots of them looked temporary - trying to flush Euros into circulation still perhaps?

In Zagreb, and Kent Bank don’t charge- there’s a couple of them around.

OTP Banka have started charging 5,50€ for UK withdrawals (they were free when I was last in Croatia)
