That’s a fair point - I have already fed this back
I’d hope it’s fairly clear from the above that it’s not us blocking people from making transactions at Asda. That said, I think it’s more helpful to stay away from rumour and speculation until we do have more specific details to share (I have asked what we can do here)

Did anyone on here pay for fuel at Asda with a different card after their Monzo card was declined?
Just interested to know if Asda were changing their system to authorise £99 initially and accidentally broke Monzo functionality.
Working for a legacy bank who recently had issues with payments, this is exactly what happened with us. Once we put a communication out about the issue, customer contact from phone, web chat, social media etc. went through the roof. Most of these just wanted to talk about what was happening and weren’t impacted by the issue. But as wait times then became unmanageable the people who it did impact couldn’t get through to discuss it.
I still think there should be better communication from Monzos end but now I’ve calmed down, I can see it from your perspective a little better.
I hope you’re close to resolving this.
I was also thinking, if Asda have blocked Monzo either deliberately or accidentally is that against any Mastercard T&Cs or any laws? Could Monzo be in a position to claim a huge amount of compensation?
Yep I used a second card to pay for the petrol, this is why you should have a backup card in your wallet.
If I didn’t have a second card on me I would have got cash out, not sure how that would work as I used a pay at pump.
What Asda could do is inform customers paying with Monzo at checkout that they won’t be able to use it for fuel, could also have something by the petrol station saying the same thing.
As far as we’ve established, ASDA have blocked our card number range at the terminal for all fuel purchases as of Thursday morning.
We do not yet know why they have done this but we do know that we are not the only card issuer affected.
In-store purchases are not affected.
It took a long time for us to work out what was going on and I apologise for the lack of clear communication. These issues are incredibly difficult to establish the facts on and I’d like to thank everybody here on the community and in-app support chat who posted receipts and reports as they were incredibly helpful in narrowing down what was happening.
We’re working to resolve this and are waiting for responses from ASDA, their card payments provider, and Mastercard. As it’s not something under our control, there is very little we are able to do but we will continue to push to get this resolved as soon as possible.
For now, our Apple Pay and Google Pay cards seem to still work for fuel payments at ASDA and all of our cards continue to work as normal at other fuel stations.
It’s not that as Starling is reportedly working fine and you have the ability to freeze that too.
I suspect that they have had a disproportionate amount of fraudulent transactions using Monzo cards, so have taken the steps they have. That’s just my current thinking based on the information available, I may be completely wrong.
