Merchant Data Corrections

Am example of why it matters… On my recent travels many of the transactions are people’s names with the addresses registered at their homes, not the business name and business address. My flex transactions are a horror right now

An observation/suggestion @tjvr from me after now having run through the new process maybe thirty or so times over the last day or two

I really like the process, but it would be good if it was - even if optionally - possible to select the existing name when entering the merchant name. It is often close enough to offer at least a decent stem for editing or adding to, and having to manually type it in from scratch mainly offered up the chance for me to make typos

Great work otherwise

Wow I had a name updated, but they didn’t take the picture from the Instagram link I provided.

I’ve had one or two updated recently, including one which I had to submit a load of times over the past few months. Still a bit hit and miss though.

You’d think it would be worth the effort of improving the data and resolving the backlog; for every merchant that gets updated there’s got to be at least 100/1000 customers who benefit from the more accurate feed.

To be honest a quick fix could be that any new merchant data (ie. there is nothing there, no logo, or name is obviously wrong) is done pretty pronto and without too much checking (beyond a casual glance that it makes sense) and then whenever merchant data is challenged (ie. there is a logo there or the name is just being slightly altered) then it’s popped somewhere for a proper look at with a finalised decision made by Monzo.

If merchant data is then requested to be changed within a set period (say, within 3 months of this final change) then the flow prevents this or has something in the way of stopping that change being requested.

Though it’s probably far too complicated to do this.

I am also not seeing it on Flex transactions on Android, I still have the old flow.

Just submitted for my local butchers, ones I’ve done in the past were done in a day or two, so hopefully this works the same.

2 out of 3 updated. The Tui one was inflight purchase.

Neat idea with the note on the transactions!

Is there no way to see if a submission is rejected? I’ve submitted ‘Nice Things’ a few times, but their lovely logo remains out of the Monzosphere. I’m assuming that no update is a rejection…

I’ve been using websites not socials.

My local butcher hasn’t been updated though.

Nailed the NYC transit system (MTA) and upgraded Uber-esque Taxi payment system (Curb)
Not so much the minutiae of the NY cafe/bar scene. But Kudos for taking care of the mainstream stuff :+1:

(Monzo US account ‘bleed-through’ into UK account merchant data?)

Already home…

El-rapido trip. Left Tuesday lunch, back home early this morning.

Need

Where’s Concorde when you need it?

I’m desperate for them to update the Amsterdam metro which I’ve patiently been waiting to update.

Currently it’s rather horrid:

Yeah, that’s bad.

Makes you wonder if the merchant database from Monzo US is interlinked with the merchant database from Monzo UK (or if it is even the same db) - or - is it that so many Monzo UK accounts visit the US that the Monzo UK merchant database is ‘US-friendly’

The EU destination is a whole new level, probably relying on the volume of Monzo UK accounts using EU merchants or reporting correction of the EU merchant data to help to fix/enrich this.

Personally I use #name and #icon, but everyone’s mileage varies

I have still got quite the way to go with my logo backlog, but I have had quite a lot of joy with names, including some old really stubborn ones, of late

Watch URL did you submit? If you haven’t already, can you try submitting their Instagram page directly (since that has the logo on it)?

You’re right, it is indeed the same database! It works slightly differently because how we connect to the card networks is slightly different in the US. But the vast majority of the merchant data is shared

Out of interest - using the NY subway last week came through with an instant MTA logo, and using Taxi’s (not Ubers) came through with the Curb logo. Nice :+1:

Other minor spends at cafe’s/stores/JFK came back with generic logos - unsurprisingly.

(UK account used on a quick US trip last week)
